Bumped into By Hand London this morning reading a quick post on Vogue.it. I did my research on their website as I didn't really grasp the concept of the brand. I do now :-) and that's why I'm writing about it and sharing it with you.
The company is brand new, launched in October, with a studio in Hackney and run by Elisalex, a dressmaker and Charlotte with background in marketing for start-ups.
They basically make and sell patterns that you can buy online and customise as both the skirt and the dress, named after them, come in three variations.
If you live in London you can attend one of the label 'sewalong' workshops and if you're into DIY their blog is updated with idea on how to upcycle unwanted garments in your wardrobe.
I personally have really limited sewing skills - can handle a button or a hem - but the idea of having a pattern and doing it the old fashioned way - going to a tailor to have a garment done and choose the fabric - is really appealing.
Would you buy a pattern and have creative control on the finished product? I definitely would.

Sono incappato su un post riguardante By Hand London stamattina su Vogue.it. Ho approfondito la ricerca sul sito del brand poiche' nn avevo capito fino in fondo il concept. Ora pero' si :-) e per questo ora ne scrivo e lo condivido con voi. Il brand e' nuovissimo, lanciato ad ottobre, con uno studio nel quartiere di Hackney e controllato da Elisalex, con esperienza da modellista e Charlotte, con background in marketing per start-ups. In poche parole creano e vendono cartamodelli acquistabili online e personalizzabili poiche' sia la gonna che il vestito, che hanno il nome delle due fondatrici, hanno tre opzioni ciascuna. Se siete a Londra potete partecipare a laboratori 'sewalong' (per cucire passo-passo) e se siete appasionate/i di DIY il loro blog e' aggiornato con progetti di upcycle per capi che non si indossano piu' ma languono nell'armadio. Personalmente, la mia abilita' nel cucire e' limitata - riesco a gestire bottoni ed orli - ma l'idea di avere un cartamodello e fare 'alla vecchia maniera' - andare da una sarta per avere il capo confezionato es cegliere anche il tessuto - mi piace moltissimo. Comprereste un cartamodello ed avere controllo del prodotto finale? Io lo farei.
