Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes, ha utilizzato al meglio una strategia a tre soste, andando a vincere il Gran Premio di Singapore e portandosi così in testa al Mondiale.

Il pilota inglese ha effettuato i primi tre stint con gli pneumatici P Zero Red supersoft, per poi completare la gara, disputata nelle due ore limite piuttosto che nei 61 giri previsti, con gli pneumatici P Zero Yellow soft.

Hamilton ha dovuto tenere a bada l’ex campione del mondo Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, che, utilizzando una strategia a due soste, è salito sul secondo gradino del podio dopo essere partito dalla quarta posizione in griglia.

Il pilota tedesco ha completato i primi due stint con le supersoft e poi l’ultimo stint con le soft. Il suo compagno di squadra, Daniel Ricciardo, ha seguito la stessa strategia, finendo al terzo posto davanti al ferrarista Fernando Alonso.

Vettel ha dimostrato perfettamente come la strategia gomme possa fare la differenza. Con un gap di circa due secondi tra le due mescole, tutti i piloti sono partiti con le gomme supersoft. Il modo in cui hanno utilizzato le gomme è stato fondamentale ai fini degli esiti della gara.

Singapore ha confermato il suo record del 100% di ingresso della safety car, dopo un contatto a metà gara. Alonso e Jenson Button hanno approfittato dei setti giri della safety car per rientrare ai box e montare le gomme soft. Mentre, entrambi i piloti Red Bull e Williams avevano già effettuato il loro pit stop per montare le soft prima dell’ingresso della safety car.

Dopo la ripartenza della gara, Hamilton ha avuto bisogno di guadagnare un vantaggio di circa 25 secondi: il tempo necessario per entrare e uscire dai box. Il pilota inglese è però rientrato al secondo posto dopo una sosta finale al 52° giro; grazie al suo ottimo passo di gara, Hamilton è riuscito a riprendersi la prima posizione.

Paul Hembery ha commentato: “Ancora una volta abbiamo assistito ad una gara davvero emozionante, dove le differenti strategie gomme hanno rappresentato una parte cruciale del risultato. Nelle fasi finali abbiamo visto Hamilton con le gomme soft più nuove inseguire Vettel con le soft più usurate: questo ha consentito all’inglese di sorpassare e conquistare la vittoria. Nelle fasi precedenti Hamilton, sulle più veloci supersoft, ha dovuto costruirsi il necessario vantaggio che gli ha consentito poi di avere abbastanza tempo per rientrare ai box e montare l’ultimo set di gomme soft. Dunque, come abbiamo potuto vedere, anche se ci sono state differenti strategie, è stato un finale davvero molto combattuto.”

La strategia vincente:

Avevamo previsto una gara a tre soste: partenza con le supersoft, nuovo set di supersoft al 20° giro, ancora supersoft al 36° giro e, infine, soft a partire dal 51° giro. Lewis Hamilton ha seguito questa sequenza ma si è fermato al 15°, al 28° e al 52° giro. Tuttavia, la strategia è stata influenzata dalla safety car che ha influito sui tempi dei pit stop.
