Rilasciato IPFire 2.7, firewall basato su Linux rinnovato con l'applicazione di tutti gli ultimi aggiornamenti: kernel, openssh, openssl, server web Apache, DNS server dnsmasq, proxy web squid, IPsec e così via.
La nuova versione di IPFire è disponibile anche sotto forma di file d'immagine in formato ISO, eseguibile da CD ROM oppure da un'unità USB.
Diversamente rispetto alle precedenti release, gli sviluppatori di IPFire si raccomandano di non effettuare un aggiornamento ma di reinstallare il firewall da zero, considerata la complessità del processo di update.

Il firewall Linux è dotato di un completo meccanismo per il filtro dei contenuti web: esso fa in modo, ad esempio, che l'utente che visita una pagina web contenente oggetti od elementi potenzialmente pericolosi non possa riceverli sul suo sistema client, collegato alla rete locale. Funzionalità QoS ed il supporto per reti VPN completano IPFire. La "modularità" è il concetto alla base di IPFire.
Il prodotto è stato inoltre arricchito di tutta una serie di add-on che consentono di installare e configurare fileserver, server di posta, server di streaming audio e video, il supporto per il VoIP (Asterisk), strumenti per la sicurezza aggiuntivi.
