Simply... PIERROT

No no non ho sbagliato festa e non è ancora carnevale ;o) Questa estate, ho acquistato per la mia collezione, una foto d'epoca originalerisalente all'incirca ai primi anni del 1900-1920. Amo la fotografia in tutte le sue manifestazioni e quando si tratta di foto antiche io perdo letteralmente la testa. Infatti mi sono subito innamorata di questa qui che ritraeva due splendide ragazze vestite da Pierrot e sedute schiena a schiena con un espressione sorridente. Così si è accesa la familiare "lampadina" ;o) è mi venuta l'idea di creare una piccola scatolina da collezione in stile vintage con questa bellissima immagine e con tanti altri "Pierrot" resi immortali da vecchie foto, ho creato queste suggestive mini foto antiche... quasi tutte quelle che ho potuto trovare. Non le ho contate ma riempiono tutta la scatolina.

Ed ora un po' di informazioni su chi è questo personaggio così caratteristico. Come sempre l'immensa enciclopedia di internet mi viene in soccorso.
Il nome di Pierrot proviene dall'italiano Pedrolino e non era altro che un personaggio della Commedia dell'Arte italiana di fine '500. Venne interpretato le prime volte dalla Compagnia dei Gelosi (strano nome eh?) da Giovanni Pellesini. Ebbe successo e venne esportato in Francia dove il suo nome venne trasformato in Pierrot. Da qui il successo anche in altri Paesi europei fino ad arrivare oltre oceano.
Pierrot is the French version of Pedrolino, who was a stock character in "Commedia dell'Arte". This Commedia dell'arte (or Art of Comedy) was an improvisational art form that began in northern Italy and other parts of Europe in the 16th century. Traveling entertainers would set up outdoor stages and perform juggling, acrobatics and small plays based on stock scenarios and characters.
La pigrizia gli impedisce di muoversi come gli altri personaggi della Commedia, è sicuramente il più intelligente dei servi, svelto nel linguaggio, critica gli errori dei padroni e spesso finge di non capire i loro ordini, anzi li esegue al contrario, non per stupidità, ma perché li ritiene sbagliati. È furbo ma sentimentale, l'unico personaggio che, a un piatto di minestra, preferisce una romantica serenata eseguita sulla mandola, sotto le finestre della sua bella. Forse anche per questa ragione è pallido e languido e, spesso, una lacrima gli scende sul viso.
In the beginning, the Pierrot character was a side-show act that was a prelude to the actual performance. Pierrot was a tumbler and acrobat who performed imitations and caricatures. The Pierrot character was a "zanni," or clown, who enjoyed playing pranks and whose job it was to cause confusion in the play. He dressed all in white (sometimes with black accents). His hat was either tall and pointed or sometimes small and brimmed. Sometimes he appears with a frilled collaret and a hat, usually with a close-fitting crown and wide round brim, more rarely with a conical shape like a dunce's cap. But most frequently, since his reincarnation under Jean-Gaspard Deburau, he wears neither collar nor hat, only a black skullcap. The defining characteristic of Pierrot is his "naïveté": he is seen as a fool, always the butt of pranks, yet nonetheless trusting.

In Francia, Pierrot perse le caratteristiche di astuzia e doppiezza, proprie dello Zanni, per diventare il mimo triste innamorato della luna, quello che compare con il nome di Gilles nel celebre quadro di Antoine Watteau. Il suo personaggio nella cultura popolare moderna e nell'arte del palcoscenico, si trasformò quindi in un pagliaccio triste che si strugge per amore di Colombina che a sua volta invece ama Arlecchino. Un pagliaccio triste con il cuore spezzato e rappresentato sempre con il volto bianco e come ho detto prima con una lacrima dipinta sul volto. Indossa sempre larghi abiti bianchi. Una lunga blusa, pantaloni svasati e un cappello solitamente a punta con inserti scuri. La caratteristica che colpisce del Pierrot moderno è la sua ingenuità: un povero pazzo sempre bersagliato da scherzi ma comunque fiducioso.
Pedrolino or Pierrot was often made up with a powdered white face, more rarely an actual mask. The actor portraying Pierrot was traditionally expected to show a great range of emotions on his face. Pierrot portrayed a charming and kind person who was so trusting that others took advantage of his naiveté. He was a "born loser" who became the sad clown when his heart was broken by Columbine, who loved Harlequin instead.
The transformation of the Italian character Pedrolino into his French counterpart Pierrot is attributed to an actor named Giuseppe Geratoni who played in the Parisian company in about 1665. He accentuated the character's innocence and dressed in the outfit that we associate with Pierrot today.

Un famoso mimo francese Jean-Gaspard Debureau (1796-1846), rappresentò il Pierrot ottocentesco dal 1826 al Théâtre des Funanbules. Egli lo incarnò perfettamente.
By the late 19th and early 20th century, Pierrot had evolved into a "melancholy dreamer," a romantic with the temperament of the tormented artist. He was a stoic who hid his pain from others, except for perhaps a single teardrop on his face. Picasso's famous Cubist painting "The Three Musicians" featured two "Commedia dell'Arte" characters, Harlequin and Pierrot, along with a monk.
