The naked architecture

A young architect in search of himself in the distant land of Brazil, questions ‘what is beauty?’At first, the youth interviews architect Fuksas who tells him about his unique architectural referring point; but then he decides to continue his journey in order to meet the source… He crosses the seas and asks Oscar Niemeyer, the architect of all architects, if architecture can mirror humanity’s scientific, spiritual and social progress; that is, if esthetics could tell the story of the intimate journey of Man. During hours in which the two discuss, the youth’s impressed eyes, wide open, light up to Niemeyer’s 100 years of wisdom; wisdom gathered through a life time of quests that Niemeyer continues to research with the curiosity and vigor of a student!To go to Brasilia, the city that Niemeyer built 50 years ago in the middle of the desert, and to enter the constructions that characterized a revolution that the great architect began with Corbusier, will make the young architect reflects on humanity as well on his future and his own journey…Metaphysical places, philosophical reasoning and art will combine to portrait the journey of a man who is still fully engaged in transforming the “shape” of the world. Going from Paris to Rio De Janeiro, and to Rome, Milan and to Brasilia, the young architect will venture into the world of beauty, beyond esthetics.

Mi sono reso conto subito che Oscar Niemeyer non poteva essere raccontato con un documentario sull’architettura e né io ero intenzionato a fare un semplice “documentario”. Volevo dargli qualcosa in più che rispecchiasse anche le mie ricerche estetiche e artistiche; volevo avvicinarmi da “autore” all’argomento… Ma non avevo tenuto conto del personaggio Oscar Niemeyer; del fatto che a 100 anni é più lucido del 99 % delle persone che conosco e che è “il maestro” che tutti noi vorremmo incontrare! É così che ho capito che il film sarebbe stato non su un architetto ma sull’umanità intera, su questi ultimi 100 anni e sull’estetica del contenuto, della terra e di noi stessi .. vuoto o pieno!?.. a voi la risposta!
