Volcano activity of July 1, 2012 – Canary Islands, Mexico, Colombia, Washington, California and Eritrea

July 1, 2012 volcano activity

Pulses of intense volcanic seismicity continue to strike El Hierro (Canary Islands), along with uplift and extension across the island as measured by GPS.

The volcano-tectonic earthquake swarm at Popocatepetl (Mexico) continues and appears to be on the increase.  Relatively minor gas and ash emissions are ongoing at the volcano.

SO2 output at Nevado del Ruiz (Colombia) may be on the wane, in concert with diminished volcanic tremor at the volcano over the past few weeks.

Elsewhere, small earthquakes continue within and around Mount Saint Helens (WA) and the south moat of Long Valley Caldera (CA) as they have over the past year.  This is mainly a sign of a slow volcano-reporting day!

A rather strong earthquake occurred below the Nabro volcano ( Eritrea). Satellite images did not reveal any SO2 or visual volcano plumes.  Our updates
