Dopo avervi mostrato un po' la città, ora ne parlo.
New York è la città più bella del mondo. Non sono né l’unica né la prima a pensarlo. A New York ho vissuto un entusiasmo e respirato un’atmosfera che non ho mai trovato altrove. E’ la sua vivacità a essere disarmante. Il ritmo metropolitano e internazionale è percepito in ogni cosa. Camminando per le sue strade è come se si sentisse e si vivesse del battito cardiaco di tutti coloro che ci vivono. La luce, il riflesso nei grattacieli, la grandezza dei palazzi, delle imprese, delle cose, sono tratti inediti per un europeo e che non si possono descrivere. Le avenue larghissime, il meltinpot, il packwork di quartieri che, cuciti insieme dall’american dream, creano la grande mela. Il confine labilissimo tra vero e illusorio e soprattutto tra sogno e finzione.
Mi ricordo che già nel viaggio in taxi (a NY, se si è in tre/quattro il taxi conviene moltissimo rispetto agli altri mezzi pubblici) dal JFK a Time Square ero rimasta con il naso incollato al finestrino, come in quelle immagini dove i bambini affamati si stampano con la faccia contro la vetrina dei negozi di dolci. After showing something of the city, now I speak about it.
New York is the most beautiful city in the world. I am neither the only nor the first to think this. In New York I lived and breathed an exciting atmosphere that I've never found anywhere else. Its liveliness is what disarms. Its urban rhythm is perceived in all things. Walking through its streets is like if you lived and you felt the heartbeat of all those who are there. The light, the reflection in skyscrapers, the size of buildings, of businesses, of things are totally new for those who're coming from Europe and that can not be described. The Big Apple is a hackwork made of very wide Avenue, meltinpot, neighborhoods, stitched together by the American Dream. There, the line between real and illusory, and especially between dream and fiction is increasingly blurred.
I remember that I spent the first trip by taxi (in NY, if you are in three / fourtaxi is very cheap compared to other public transport) from JFK to Times Square with my nose glued to the window, as in those images wherehungry children are printed with his face against the glass of the sweet shops. Sono stata a New York una settimana di luglio del 2008 - l'estate dei miei 18 anni, con la mia famiglia al completo: i miei genitori e mia sorella Beatrice. E' stata una delle settimane più incredibili della mia vita e trovo abbastanza difficile raccontarla.
Abbiamo viaggiato con Alitalia e mi sono trovata molto bene. Era la prima (e unica) volta che prendevo un volo intercontinentale e non abbiamo provato alcun disagio a bordo. Il viaggio diretto Milano Malpensa - NYC JKF dura 20 ore e quindi bisogna premunirsi di passatempi. Io ho la capacità innata di saper dormire ovunque e la predisposizione di farlo in viaggio, quindi non ho fatto grandi sforzi :) .
Arrivati al JFK si è sottoposti al controllo dei documenti e vengono poste alcune domande onde evitare l'immigrazione clandestina. Il poliziotto cui era adibito questo compito è stato il nostro benvenuto in America: era simpaticissimo e ci ha messi immediatamente a nostro agio cercando di dire qualche parola in italiano. E abbiamo presto appreso che non si trattava di un caso isolato: gli americani sono dei giocherelloni senza la minima puzza sotto al naso.
E così tutta la città: non ho trovato nessuno snobismo e non ci sono limiti convenzionali a nulla. Vivi e lascia vivere.

We traveled with Alitalia and I found it very well. It was the first (and only) time I took an international flight and we did not feel any discomfort on board. The direct journey Milan Malpensa - NYC JFK lasts 20 hours and then you must make sure to have hobbies. I have the innate ability of being able to sleep anywhere, and the predisposition to do so on the road, so I have not made ​​great efforts to pass the time:).
When you arrive at JFK you have to go to the control of documents and youare asked some questions in order to prevent illegal immigration. Thepolice officer who performed this task was our welcome to America. He wasvery nice and put us at ease immediately trying to say a few words in Italian.And we quickly learned that it was not an isolated case: the Americans areplayful without being at all toffee-nosed.
And so it is throughout the city: I have not found any snobbery and there are no limits to anything conventional. Live and let live.

Le nostre camere (non certo 'business class') erano piccole ma confortevoli e elegantemente studiate. La vista non esisteva, ma tanto appena fuori c'era tutto il mondo. Il resto dell'hotel era strepitoso: l'arredamento era nientepopodimeno by Trump. La luce era ovunque soffusa e la hall era particolarissima: poltrone dagli stili molto diversi e dai colori contrastanti poste tutte insieme. Vi era poi una  poltrona ottenuta da un blocco di legno e una scrivania come fine ottocento. Il tutto era legato da uno strano fil rouge che la faceva sembrare una scatola dei ricordi di un bambino.
La colazione non era inclusa, ma, adiacente all'hotel, c'era Dean&Deluca - la versione gastronomica di Starbucks (magari ne riparleremo!)

Our hotel was the Paramount (235 West 46 Street, as you can see from the photograph) in the theater district along Broadway, just steps from Time Square. Our rooms (certainly not 'business class') were small butcomfortable and elegantly designed. The view did not exist, but it was not important, because outside there was the whole world. The rest of the hotelwas amazing: the decor was by none other Mr.Trump. The light was softeverywhere and the lobby was very special: the chairs very different stylesand colors were mixed together. Then there was a chair made ​​from a block of wood and a desktop-stylelate-nineteenth century. Everything was tied by a strange thread that made ​​her seem a box of memories of a child.
The breakfast was not included, but adjacent to the hotel, there was Dean & Deluca - the culinary version of Starbucks (maybe we'll talk!)
