Mi è appena arrivato uno scatolone – o è un forziere? – pieno di libri: e chissà se avrò mai il tempo di leggerli tutti. Libri su temi turchi e ottomani: perché come si fa a capire un paese se non se ne conosce in modo approfondito la storia? Ne parlerò mano a mano che li avrò letti: ma forse vale la pena segnalare da subito quelli più significativi.

Comincio con A Question of Genocide. Armenians and Turks at the End of the Ottoman Empire, a cura di Ronald Grigor Suny, Fatma Müge Göçek e Norman M. Naimark (Oxford University Press, 2011). Un libro collettaneo, frutto del decennale lavoro del Workshop for Armenian/Turkish Scholarship (WATS): un lavoro condiviso tra studiosi armeni, turchi e di altri paesi, che – come si evince dai nomi e dall’introduzione – hanno in comune l’accettazione del termine “genocido” per descrivere quanto accaduto nel 1915; voci dissenzienti o almeno contestualizzanti non sono ammesse.
