1979 BMW R100 RS “Tracker HP” by Fuel Motorcycles - Barcellona, Spain
This bike (HP stands for High Performance) was commissioned to Karl Vives by Dave from England. Last year, the Dave’s bike unfortunately broke during a desert stage of Scram Africa. When the trip ended he left the bike to Fuel to fix it and turn it into a flat tracker: small tank, solo seat, high exhaust pipe, simple and light. The project tooks five months of hard work.
Questa moto (HP significa High performance) è stata commissionata a Karl Vives da Dave, in Inghilterra. L’anno scorso, l amoto di dave ha avuto un guasto durante un tratto desertico dello Scram Africa. Alla fine del viaggio, la moto è rimasta alla Fuel per la riparazione e, con l’occasione, la trasformazione in flat tracker: serbatoio minimale, sella singola, scarichi alti, semplicità e leggerezza. Il progetto ha preso cinque mesi di duro lavoro.
To improve the performances of the bike, the new front end comes from a BMW K75. The whole brake system is new (bigger discs and four caliper brakes), Mikuni carbs, K&N air filters, rear Ohlins suspension, fast throttle, etc.
Per migliorare le prestazioni della moto, il nuovo avantreno deriva da quello di una K75. Il sistema frenante è stato interamente sostituito (nuovi dischi e pinze a quattro pistoncini), carburatori Mikuni, filtri K&N, mono Ohlins, gas rapido etc.
The ignition key has been relocated on the left side of the bike but the engine starts with a car start button located beside of the speedometer. / Il blocchetto dell'accensione è stato spostato sul lato sinistro della moto, ma il motore parte con un pulsante sul cruscotto collocato in prossimità del tachimetro.
Several parts of this bike have been designed by Fuel and machined by specialists: speedo holder, indicators’ brackets, front and rear fender brass fixing screws, etc. Battery box, subframe, the exhaust pipes, aluminium side panels, have been handmade. Very few aftermarket parts have been used.
Numerose componenti della moto sono state progettate da Fuel e la vorate da specialisti: staffa tachimetro, supporti frecce, bulloneria in ottone dei parafanghi etc. La scatola batteria, il telaio reggisella, i tubi di scarico, i pannelli laterali in alluminio sono fatti a mano artigianalmente. Le compoenti aftermarket sono state ridotte al minimo.
