Ci sono eroi silenziosi. Ci sono eroi che scoprono di essere “super” quando vengono toccati dalla kriptonite. E la vincono.
Giacomo “Jack” Sintini, classe 1979, palleggiatore della Trentino Volley, è un giocatore di pallavolo, ma è anche un eroe.
Jack ha una moglie, una bambina di 5 anni e una carriera bellissima nello sport. Jack è uno di quelli “fortunati”, perché ha fatto dello sport una professione.
Poi, un giorno, il mondo gli è crollato addosso. O almeno, così tutti avremmo pensato.
A Jack è stato diagnosticato un linfoma. E quando hai un cancro, dio solo sa cosa ti passa per la testa.
Ma Jack non ha mostrato il suo lato debole nemmeno all’ombra della morte, proprio come fanno gli eroi. L’ha affrontata, così come affronta i suoi avversari sotto rete. Io, come tante altre persone, ho seguito la sua partita su Twitter.
Jack ha lottato, ha giocato di squadra con i medici che l’hanno seguito a Perugia, e infine ha vinto. 3 set a 0.

Dopo poco più di un anno Jack è tornato nei campi da gioco, guarito, a dirigere il suo Trentino Volley. Ha vinto il campionato italiano, uno dei più difficili del mondo, ed è stato eletto miglior giocatore. Durante l’intervista di rito ha detto queste parole: “Voi sapete dov’ero un anno fa. Non sapevo neanche se sarei riuscito a sopravvivere. Oggi sono qua, io ce l’ho fatta e non sono nessuno, sono una persona normale. Questo lo dedico a tutte le persone ammalate di cancro.”

Non bisogna salvare fisicamente centinaia di persone per essere considerato un eroe. Certe volte basta salvare la propria.
E ispirare gli altri.

Giacomo “Jack” Sintini, born in 1979, plays for Trentino Volley. He’s a volleyball player, and a hero. Jack has a wife, a five-year-old daughter and a shining rewarding sport career. Jack is a lucky guy since he has converted his passion into a profession.
One day it happens that the world collapses into him. Or that’s what the most of us should’ve thought. A Lymphoma has been diagnosed to Jack, and god only knows what kind of stuff has run into his mind after this discovery.

Nevertheless, Jack didn’t leave himself open to the weakness, the fear, nor the shadow of death, just like the real heroes do. He faced death as he has faced his opponents in front of the net at the sport arena. I followed him on Twitter - like thousands of people – and I supported him during his painful way to a new life.  Jack fight, team-played with the medical staff who treated him at a clinic facility in Perugia, and finally won.

After a year, Jack has back into the sports arena as a professional volleyball player, leading his Trentino Volley to the top of the Serie A1, one of the toughest volleyball championship in the world. He has also been awarded as a MVP.
During the customary interview, he said: ” You know where I was one year ago. I didn’t even know if I could have survived. But I’m here today, I did it. I did it even if I’m no one. I’m just a normal person. I’d like to dedicate everything I achieved today to the people who are struggling because of the cancer.”

Sometimes you don’t need to physically save hundreds of people to be considered as a hero. Sometimes you need just to save yours.
And get people inspired.
