Un incontro fra autentici Gladiatori moderni non poteva che essere al Colosseo. Il 2001 fu l'anno della Roma campione d'Italia e del film interpretato dall'attore Russell Crowe che conquistò cinque Oscar. Così lo stesso Crowe e Francesco Totti, che dopo la conquista dello scudetto si fece tatuare su una spalla proprio il disegno di un gladiatore (per scommessa e perchè molti tifosi lo paragonavano al protagonista del film), alla fine non potevano che incontrarsi e l'hanno fatto ieri proprio davanti al monumento-simbolo di Roma. L'attore grande appassionato di rugby (a Sydney è comproprietario di una squadra) ma anche di calcio è a Roma in occasione del decimo anniversario del film che lo rese famoso in tutto il mondo, e per la prima del suo nuovo 'Robin Hood'. Così Crowe e Totti hanno deciso di conoscersi e lo hanno fatto nello scenario suggestivo del Colosseo chiuso per l'evento. Per Totti, che a causa della sua popolarità non ha mai avuto la possibilità di passeggiare come un turista qualsiasi, è stata anche l'occasione di visitare il monumento, accompagnato da tutta la sua famiglia. Anche Crowe era con moglie e figli. Tra i due c'è stato uno scambio di doni: Totti ha dato a Crowe le sue maglie, l'attore australiano (ma di origini neozelandesi) ha ricambiato con i dvd del 'Gladiatore' e una riproduzione dell'elmo usato nel film. «Grazie, lo metto nella prossima partita a Verona...», la replica di Totti.

The actor is a big rugby fan (in Sydney is owner of a team) but he likes also football and he is in Rome to mark the tenth anniversary of the movie that made him famous all around the world, and for the first of his new 'Robin Hood' . So Crowe and Totti have decided to meet and have done in the evocative setting of the Coliseum closed for the event. For Totti, who because of his popularity has never been able to walk as a tourist any, was also the occasion to visit the monument, accompanied by his whole family. Crowe also was with his wife and children. Between the two there was an exchange of gifts: Totti gave Crowe his shirts, the Australian actor (but originally from New Zealand) has returned with the DVD of 'Gladiator' and a reproduction of the helmet used in the film. "Thanks, I'll put it in the next match in Verona ...", was Totti's answer.
