Thelma van Rensburg was born in Pretoria, South-Africa in 1969. She has studied and travelled extensively. The artist has always had an interest in art, but did not pursue it as a career until 2000. She has a B.A Hons. Degree in Physical education and Psychology. In 2004 she decided to study art full time and received her B.Tech/ Honours degree in 2007 and majored in Printmaking and Painting. Her thesis focused on the Postmodern Identity. Van Rensburg is a resident artist at Kunsthouse Cape Town and Smudge Contemporary Gallery Clarens. In 2007 van Rensburg was a finalist in the Sasol new Signatures Art Competition.
Since 2008 she participated in several group exhibitions including ones at Fried Contemporary Gallery in Pretoria; Magpie Gallery in Centurion; The Gallery, Duncan yard, Pretoria and the MAP Gallery in Graskop. In 2009 van Rensburg took part in group exhibitions at Dluxeville Gallery, Woodstock; Rust-en-Vrede Gallery, Durbanville, Cape Town; Pretoria; Kunsthouse Gallery in Cape Town; in the Affordable Art Fair at Fried Contemporary Gallery, Pretoria; St Lorient Fashion and Art Gallery, Pretoria, Aardklop Arts Festival, Potchsefstroom. The artist also had a solo Exhibition at Kunsthouse, in Cape Town in September 2009 and was a finalist in the Ekurhuleni Fine Arts Awards as well as in the Vuleka Sanlam competition in Cape Town in 2009.
In 2010 her work was show cased at the The Gallery at Duncan yard on several occasions. Articles and frames in Pretoria, Artcafe@thehub in Centurion, Gallery 18th Avenue In Pretoria and at Art Space Warehouse in Johannesburg.
She has been selected for online publishing of her work by Itch Magazine on two occasions and has been selected by One Small Seed Magazine as one of the Selected Creative’s, where only 10 were chosen to participate to appear in the magazine. Her work has been published in The “A look Away magazine”, 2010, “International Contemporary artists - Volume I, 2010 and The International Contemporary Masters Volume V", 2011, a juried annual art book.
