Ma io, per chi voterei?

A me Obama non piace. I motivi sono tutti riassunti in un ottimo - e naturalmente assai controverso - articolo pubblicato qualche giorno fa su Salon.com: The Progressive Case Against Obama. L'articolo è molto lungo, ma se avete voglia di leggerlo ve lo consiglio, perché è un riassunto chiaro (e deprimente) dei motivi per cui tanti democratici sono delusi da Obama. Tra i passaggi che mi hanno più colpita c'è questo:"It is as if America’s traditional racial segregationist tendencies have been reorganized, and the tools and tactics of that system have been repurposed for a multicultural elite colonizing a multicultural population. The data bears this out: Under Bush, economic inequality was bad, as 65 cents of every dollar of income growth went to the top 1 percent. Under Obama, however, that number is 93 cents out of every dollar. That’s right, under Barack Obama there is more economic inequality than under George W. Bush. And if you look at the chart above, most of this shift happened in 2009-2010, when Democrats controlled Congress. This was not, in other words, the doing of the mean Republican Congress. And it’s not strictly a result of the financial crisis; after all, corporate profits did crash, like housing values did, but they also recovered, while housing values have not.This is the shape of the system Obama has designed. It is intentional, it is the modern American order (...). This is just not an America that any of us should want to live in. It is a country whose economic basis is oligarchy, whose political system is authoritarianism, and whose political culture is murderous toward the rest of the world and suicidal in our aggressive lack of attention to climate change."

E allora, che fare? Matt Stoller, l'autore dell'articolo (che come dicevo ha suscitato molte polemiche: su Salon.com è stato seguito da The Progressive Case for Obama e Why Is the Left Defending Obama?, non pretende di avere la soluzione in tasca. Suggerisce di votare per un candidato indipendente, pur sapendo che il temuto "effetto Nader" è sempre in agguato, e che il rischio è quello di ritrovarsi con Romney come presidente. E allora credo proprio che farei come una mia amica newyorkese, la quale, vivendo in uno stato solidamente democratico, ha deciso che "si concederà il lusso di votare secondo coscienza" e voterà per Jill Stein, la candidata del Green Party. Certo, viene da chiedersi cosa succederebbe se tutti i democratici delusi votassero per lei Però ormai siamo agli sgoccioli, la gente ha deciso e non c'è tempo perché Stein possa diventare il nuovo Nader. Ecco, allora credo che se votassi negli Usa, non vivendo in uno swing state dove si decide il futuro delle elezioni, per una volta potrei anch'io concedermi il lusso di votare secondo coscienza.
