Cagliari, 24 aprile 2014. Lo Yacht Club Cagliari e la famosa sesta fermata del Poetto saranno ancora protagonisti del kiteboard mondiale ospitando dal 12 al 18 Maggio il Campionato Mondiale Master e Junior della disciplina ‘Regata’, quella che porta dritto alle Olimpiadi.
E’ la terza volta che questo tratto del Poetto e il suo prestigioso club ospitano una competizione mondiale di kitesurf.
Nel Maggio 2002 il ‘Cagliari Kite Worlds’ fu il primo campionato mondiale dello stile wakeboard in uno sport ancora in embrione. Nell’Ottobre 2012 il Kiteboard Racing World Championship superò il record di partecipazioni (oltre duecento) nell’illusione di aver raggiunto lo status Olimpico e presentò al mondo la più bella cartolina di Cagliari città turistica.
Mirco Babini, il personaggio dietro il progetto, è stato recentemente eletto Presidente Mondiale dell’IKA (International Kiteboarding Association), l’organismo che regola le diverse sfaccettature di questo sport in accordo con la Federazione Vela e il Comitato Olimpico.
“Sto mettendo i miei sforzi in varie direzioni in questo nuovo incarico – dice Babini, originario di Faenza ma da vent’anni residente a Chia – innanzitutto nel farlo nuovamente ammettere tra le discipline olimpiche nel racing in accordo col la Federazione velica internazionale (ISAF) e il CIO, ma anche nel seguire e direzionare le diverse associazioni professionistiche che promuovono I loro world tour nelle diverse discipline (wave, freestyle, regata,velocità). Vorrei aprire nuove frontiere che permettano la partecipazione agonistica dei giovani, tenendo un occhio ben attento alle scuole e gli insegnanti. Abbiamo bisogno in futuro di un nuovo metodo per l’approccio e l’insegnamento del kitesurf.“
Il Master & Youth Racing World Championship di Cagliari è certamente una prima importante tappa di questi nuovi obiettivi. In acqua vedremo I migliori al mondo sopra I 35 anni (Masters) e I nuovi talenti sotto I 18 anni (Juniors).
La formula è simile al mondiali assoluti visti un anno e mezzo fa. Gli atleti, come in una regata velica classica, gireranno intorno a delle boe dopo una partenza lanciata e con l’arrivo il più possibile vicino a riva per permettere al numeroso pubblico di seguire da terra.
“Le regole sono simili alla passata edizione – dice Babini- con la sola differenza che non è più un evento ‘open’ aperto a tutti e a tutte le misure. Le attuali superfici veliche dei kite ammessi, devono essere stampate in grande sul kite stesso e visibili a giudici e avversari.”
L’evento sarà anche una antecipazione del kitesurf che verrà ammesso ai giochi olimpici di Tokyo ?
Mirco Babini ne è convinto.
“Una decisione finale dovrà attendere il 2017 ma il Comitato Olimpico internazionale è molto interessato. Sono anche interessati a inserire il kiteboarding nei Giochi Olimpici Giovanili del 2018 a Buenos Aires. Attendiamo una loro lettera per sapere che tipo di formato vogliono vedere. “
Appuntamento dunque a Cagliari dal 12 al 18 Maggio per vedere il primo atto di questa nuova avventura.

IN CAGLIARI THE RETURN OF THE KITEBOARD RACING WORLDS !
Cagliari, 2014, april 24. The Yacht Club Cagliari and the famous Poetto Beach will be again at center stage of the kiteboarding world, hosting the Master and Junior World Championship Race from May 12th until May 18th.
It’s the third time that ’6th stop’ of the Sardinia capital most famous Poetto beach, host a world championship.
It was in 2002 the ‘Cagliari Kite Worlds’ essentially the first world championship wakeboard freestyle of a rising sport, until 2012 with the Kiteboard Racing World Championship of an established sport opening his doors to the Olimpics.
Mirco Babini, new elected IKA world President is the man behind the project, in combination with the well known efficency of the Yacht Club Cagliari.
“ I’ll put my effort in many directions in this new assignment – says Babini,originally from Faenza but now living in Sardinia- as to get kiteboarding at the Olimpycs, have our discipline together with the Elite of the ISAF Sailing World Cup tour with the top sailor of the world, follow and help the actual sanctioned event as PKRA, KTE, KTA and KSP to grow and spread their stops in other nations, open new frontiers to have younger and new riders for our future, keeping our eyes to the schools and coaches. We need to have different approaches in the future for who is learning kiteboarding “.
The Master & youth racing world championship is definetly the best step towards these goals. Combining the veterans of the sport (over 35 years) with the young new talents below 18 years.
Are going to see new rules in race for 2014 compare to the 2012 world championship, we asked Babini?
“Actually there are not many new rules. The key issue is that the class rules changed from “open” to “closed”. The only bigger change is that now all new kites must have the true kite size declared and printed on the outside of the canopy”.
The event in Cagliari can be also an antecipation of kitesurf in the Olympic Games of Tokyo.
Mirco Babini is positive on the subject.
“A final decision might have to wait till 2017, but the IOC is very interested. They are also interested to include kiteboarding already in the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Buenos Aires. We are waiting for an official letter from IOC at the moment and can then disclose on what format they want to see. “
