La città è divisa in due zone principali: la corte esterna che era riservata alle cerimonie, mentre quella interna, accessibile ai pochi, era la residenza dell'imperatore e della famiglia imperiale e dove si svolgevano gli alti affari di stato.
La città è circondata per 3 lati dai giardini imperiali, mentre sul lato sud ci si affaccia sulla famosa Piazza Tienanmen.

The city is surrounded on three sides by imperial gardens and on the southern side overlooks the famous Tiananmen Square.
Anche se oggi è divenuto un sito turistico di grande prestigio, vi posso assicurare che questa enorme struttura (ci vogliono ore per visitarla tutta) conserva un fascino straordinario.
Sembra quasi di essere catapultati in un altra epoca....
Although today has become a tourist attraction, I can assure you that this huge structure (it takes hours to see everything) preserves an extraordinary fascination.
