She is a princess for real. Even without the tiara.
A proposito di atleti-eroi, oggi vi voglio parlare di uno dei miei eroi. Più che eroe (o eroina), una principessa. Per definirla in questo modo basta vederla correre sulla pista, tanto che sembra che stia volando, leggera ed elegante.
Lei è Allyson Felix, 27 anni. Ha vinto una marea di medaglie alle Olimpiadi e ai Mondiali. I suoi personali sono incredibili: 10″93 nei 100 metri, 21″81 nei 200, 49″59 nei 400. E sono ancora più stupefacenti se si pensa che Allyson è un fuscello, con i suoi 168 centimetri per 57 chili, in genere misure non proprio comuni tra le potenti e statuarie velociste.
Io credo che chiunque mastichi un po’ di atletica leggera conosca l’incredibile talento di Allyson Felix, così come le femminucce che hanno calcato la pista abbiano pensato, almeno una volta, quanto sarebbe stato bello essere lei. Ma quello che colpisce della Felix, oltre alla sua splendida corsa, è la ragazza fuori dalle corse. Quella che ama la vita e i bambini, e che è diventata ambasciatrice di numerosi enti benefici e di tutela dei minori in difficoltà o che vivono in condizioni sfortunate.
Allyson ha dichiarato tante volte, come hanno fatto prima di lei altre star dello show business come George Clooney, di sentire il bisogno di giustificare la sua celebrità. E il modo migliore per farlo è sfruttare la propria popolarità e metterla a disposizione di buone cause. E così, Allyson è andata a fare una vacanza in Medio Oriente, nelle scuole in cui i bambini stanno seguendo il programma di Right To Play, un’organizzazione che si occupa di diffondere la cultura dello sport e del gioco. Perché è un diritto di tutti i bambini poter giocare.
Allyson è diventata da poco una delle atlete-ambasciatrici di Right To Play perché non immagina un mondo senza gioco e sport, e nemmeno io, ad essere sinceri.
D’altronde, il filmato che è stato girato (e che trovate dopo la parte in inglese) serve anche a noi: se non fosse per lei, io non lo avrei mai visto. Semplice, no?

Talking about athlete/hero stuffs, today I’d like to introduce you one of my personal hero and point of reference. A princess, more than a hero. You just watch her running to define her a princess. She seems like she’s flying with light and grace while running.
She is Allyson Felix, 27 years old. She won a tons of gold and silver medals during Olympics and World Championships. Her personal bests are amazing: 10″93 in 100 metres, 21″81 in 200 metres, 49″59 in 400 metres. They are much more incredible if you consider that Allyson has not the sprinters’ common powerfully built. She is only 5′ 6″ for 125 libres. A twig. A powerful, quick twig.
I guess everyone who has a smattering of track knows Allyson’s amazing talent as well as every girls who had trodden the field have thought at least once how nice it would being her. What strikes about Felix, beyond her superb run, is the girls outside the lanes. The girl who loves life and children and has become the ambassador of several charity agencies and organizations for the protection of children in distress or living in unfortunate conditions.
Allyson said many times, as other show-business stars like George Clooney made before her, to feel the need to justify her celebrity. And the best way is to leverage her popularity and make it available to good causes. So Allyson went for a “holiday“ in the Middle East, into schools where children are running a special program by Right To Play, an organization dedicated to spreading the culture of the game and sport. Because being able to play is a right of all children.
Allyson has recently become one of the athletes-Right To Play ambassadors because she does not imagine a world without play and sport. And me too, to be honest.
