Recent legislation signed by the Governor will allow for the alienation of Robert Moses Playground in exchange for expanded East Side park space and a waterfront esplanade on the East Side, as explained on www.eastsideopenspace.com  | The public is invited to share their views, in person or on the website.

As representatives on the East Side of Manhattan in the State Legislature and the City Council, we have launched this website to keep you informed and get your input on some significant changes that have been proposed for our community. | On July 15, 2011, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that may allow for the United Nations to consolidate facilities and improve security by constructing a new building on a portion of a public park—a rectangular blacktop recreation space on First Avenue between 41st and 42nd Streets. The land would only be transferred to the UN if an agreement can be reached to replace the lost parkland, create greater access to the East River, and develop waterfront amenities in an area that desperately needs additional open space and recreational opportunities. | The new State law sets forth a limited time period—between now and October 10, 2011—for a negotiation between the City and State to see if such an agreement is possible. While this could present a unique opportunity for significant benefits to the public, no details of the plan have been finalized or accepted, and any agreement will still be subject to a rigorous public process. If no agreement is reached by October 10th, the legislation will cease to have any effect at all. | Between now and October 10th, our offices will work with community groups and community boards in soliciting your input and views. This website will help keep you informed about our work and opportunities to participate. You can easily access recent news, information on upcoming forums and activities, photos and illustrations of some locations that might be affected, and other updates. | If you or your neighbors have questions, comments, or concerns, and would like to share your views, we’d love to hear from you. | Thanks for visiting!
