da sciarpa a poncho - from scarf to poncho

vedete questa sciarpa? è assurdamente larga, non lavorata perfettamente regolarmente e ha qualche buco. sapete che altro? è stata il mio primo lavoro ai ferri 10 anni fa. e la amo. essendo davvero troppo gigante da usare come sciarpa (non avevo ancora capito la differenza fra una lana normale e un filato sottile), l'ho sempre usato girata intorno alle spalle in casa nei giorni freddi invernali. ma poi cadeva sempre dalle spalle e la dovevo sempre risistemare.
you see this scarf? it's ridiculously wide, not particularly evenly-worked and it has a few holes. know what else? it was my first knitted work 10 years ago. and i love it. being way too big to use as a normal scarf (i still hadn't realized the difference between using a regular yarn and a thin one), i'd always wrapped around my shoulders at home during cold winter days. but it always fell from my shoulders and i always had to do it all over again.

poi ho comprato reconstructing clothes for dummies (di cui ho già scritto qui). questo libro è fantastico. dà tante idee su come trasformare vestiti vecchi o noiosi in vestiti nuovi e unici. il primo progetto che ho provato è stato quello di trasformare una striscia di una coperta lavorata ai ferri o ad uncinetto in una specie di poncho. ma la mia mega sciarpa era delle dimensioni giuste, quindi l'ho trasformata. e sono contentissima!
then i bought reconstructing clothes for dummies (which i've already written about here). this book is awesome. it has all sorts of ideas on how to transform old or boring clothes into fabulous new ones. the first project that i tried was transforming a strip of an afghan into a sort of poncho. but my mega-scarf was the right size, so i used that instead. and i'm so happy with it!

come si fa? praticamente si uniscono i bordi in modo di creare uno spirale. l'ho fissato diverse volte con gli spilli a balia per provarla e trovare lo spirale giusto. e l'ho cucito a mano con un po' della stessa lana in cui è stata lavorata. all'inizio avevo pensato di coprire la cucitura con un bel nastro decorativo o qualcosa del genere, ma non mi piaceva alcuna soluzione che ho provato, quindi l'ho lasciato così.
how do you do it? you basically join the edges so as to form a spiral. i pinned it up with safety pins a few times before getting the right fit. and i hand sewed it with a bit of the same yarn that it had been knit in. at first i wanted to cover the seam with a nice ribbon or something like that, but i didn't like anything that i tried out on it, so i left it as is.

questo poncho è comodissimo! è ovviamente assimetrico e si può indossare in diversi modi. ad esempio, qui l'ho lasciato aperto davanti. (mamma mia, che capelli-orror...)
this poncho is so comfortable! it's obviously asymmetrical and you can wear it all different ways. for example, here i left the front hanging down. (yikes, bad hair...)

e qui l'ho fissato con uno spillo (fatto da questi artigiani della carta bravissimi che ho già menzionato qui). questo è il mio modo preferito.
and here i pinned the front up (using a pin made by these talented artisans that i've already mentioned here). this is my favorite way.
e ho imparato un'altra cosa: fare la modella davanti al marito che usa la funzione scatta multipla della macchina fotografica è molto divertente!
and i learned another thing: modelling in front of your hubby as he takes photos of you with the multiple shot function (or whatever it's called) is loads of fun!
