I caffè di Torino

Torino è una città speciale, piuttosto unica nel suo genere. Mille sfaccettature che rendono la prima capitale italiana una meta da scoprire ed esplorare al più presto.Grandi corsi che attraversano la città da parte a parte, i portici praticamente ovunque, palazzi sfarzosi e signorili, piazze ampie e spaziose caratterizzano Torino. E soprattutto i suoi Caffè. Quelli della capitale sabauda sono speciali e ognuno porta con se un'atmosfera magica, sicuramente retrò. Un tuffo nel passato e nella storia di una città che è anche un po' la nostra storia.

Il mio viaggio tra i principali caffè di Torino (ce ne sono mille e non basta certo una giornata per provarli tutti, qui mi sono limitata al classico trio colazione-pranzo-merenda e già prevedo un'altra incursione torinese alla scoperta di altri posticini deliziosi come questi!) inizia in Piazza Vittorio. Il Caffè Elena era il quartier generale dei Subsonica (lo sarà ancora?) e personalmente lego a questo posto i ricordi migliori dei tempi dell'università quando letteralmente impazzivo per i 5 ragazzi torinesi che con il loro sound accattivante e coinvolgente facevano ballare anche i tavoli. Ma tornando a noi, il Caffè Elena è un accogliente bar in una delle piazze più famose della città, a due passi dalla Gran Madre e dei Murazzi sul lungo Po. Le due splendide salette interne, arredate con piccoli tavolini in marmo e legno, non hanno nulla da invidiare al dehor su Piazza Vittorio, da tutti considerato il gioiellino del Caffè. All'interno vasta scelta di dolci e caffè per la prima colazione. Gli affezionati dicono che all'ora del pranzo la proprietaria si scateni in prelibatezze tutte casalinghe e nei week end l'apirena è di casa qui.

A seguire la Caffetteria Palazzo Reale che, neanche a dirlo, si trova all'interno di Palazzo Reale. Ci si accede facilmente oltrepassando l'ingresso, si trova proprio al piano terra nel Cortile d'Onore (Ufficio di Frutteria). Non ero certo preparata allo spettacolo che ti si manifesta entrando in questo splendido caffè. Le pareti sono interamente rivestite di vetrine lignee con un meraviglioso sfondo azzurro Tiffany piene di finissima porcellana e servizi d'argento, tavolini di marmo con le sedie perfettamente allineate e con lo stemma sabaudo. Al bancone tazze rigorosamente firmate Neuv Caval'd Brons che ha preso in gestione la caffetteria, caffè bollente con l'immancabile bicchierino di acqua e dolci a profusione. La specialità di casa è La Merenda Sabauda, secondo la moda del 1700/1800 viene servita cioccolata calda e il bicerin di Cavour accompagnati da una ricca selezione di prodotti tipici artigianali tra cui, per esempio, Savoiardi, Gianduiotti, Torcetti, Baci di Dama e la Torta Reale (che qui è un po' il cavallo di battaglia!).

Per finire, all'ora della merenda, non possiamo farci mancare il tanto famigerato Bicerin nell'omonimo Caffè in Piazza della Consolata, pieno centro storico. Questa preziosa bevanda altro non è che l'evoluzione della settecentesca "bavareisa", la ricetta è tutt'ora custodita gelosamente dai proprietari del locale. Qui l'atmosfera è rimasta la stessa dal 1763, anno di apertura. Una saletta, minuscola ma tremendamente affascinante, arredata con specchi, applique alle pareti e tavoli in legno e marmo. Il menù è vario e irresistibile, la tentazione di assaggiare tutto è forte: non solo Bicerin ma anche Zabaglione, cioccolata classica o aromatizzata e un'infinità di dolci, un tripudio del cioccolato, il regno dei golosi!Io mi sono limitata alla famosa "bevanda tradizionale piemontese"- il riconoscimento ufficiale è del 2001 - che al contrario di quanto suggerisce il nome non ha nulla di piccolo, anzi... Un bel bicchiere colmo di caffè espresso appena fatto, cioccolata bollente e fresca crema di latte. Non c'è liquore nella ricetta tradizionale e io lo apprezzo assai. Bello da vedere e, fidatevi, delizioso da gustare!

And its cafes are something special. Those of Savoy capital are special and each one brings with it a magical atmosphere, definitely retro. A blast from the past and in the history of a city that is also a bit italian history.My journey through the main cafes in Turin (there are thousand cafes and a day is certainly not enough to try them all, here I was limited to the classic trio breakfast-lunch-snack and I'm already  planning another trip to Turin to discover other niches delicious like these!) begins in Piazza Vittorio. Caffè Elena was the headquarters of Subsonica (it will still be?) and personally I tie to this place the best memories of college days when I went literally crazy about these 5 guys from Turin that make everyone dance, even the tables, with their sound catchy and addictive. Let's go back on track, Caffè Elena is a cozy bar in one of the most famous squares of the city, just few steps from the Great Mother and Murazzi. The two splendid internal rooms, furnished with small wooden coffee tables and mirrors have nothing to envy to the outdoor area in Piazza Vittorio, widely considered the jewel of the cafe. Inside wide selection of pastries and coffee for breakfast. Aficionados say that at lunchtime the owner is unleashed in all homemade delicacies and on weekends this is the right place for a great happy hour.

Following the Caffetteria in Palazzo Reale which is, needless to say, located within the Royal Palace. It is located on the ground floor in the Courtyard of Honor (Office of Frutteria). I certainly was not prepared to show that is manifested entering this wonderful cafe. The walls are entirely covered with wooden windows with a wonderful background blue Tiffany full of fine china and silver service, marble tables with chairs perfectly aligned with the royal coat of arms. On the counter cups rigorously signed Neuv Caval'd Brons that has taken over the cafe, with hot coffee and the inevitable glass of water and sweets galore. The specialty of the house is La Merenda Sabauda, in the fashion of 1700/1800. It serves hot chocolate and Bicerin accompanied by a rich selection of typical handmade products including, for example, Savoyards, Gianduiotti, Torcetti, Baci di Dama and the Royal Cake (which here is a bit 'the workhorse!).

Finally snack time! We can not make us miss the so famous Bicerin in the homonymous cafe in  Piazza della Consolata, in the historic city center. This precious drink is the evolution of the eighteenth century "bavareisa", the recipe is still jealously guarded by the owners of the cafe. Here the atmosphere has remained the same since 1763, the year of opening. A small room, tiny but terribly charming, decorated with mirrors, wall lamps and tables made of wood and marble. The menu is varied and irresistible, the temptation to taste everything is really strong: not only Bicerin but also Zabaglione, classic hot chocolate or flavored and countless desserts, a blaze of chocolate, the reign of the greedies!I tasted only the famous "traditional Piedmontese drink" - the official approval is 2001 - that contrary to what the name suggests there is nothing small... A nice full glass of fresh espresso, hot chocolate and fresh cream. There is no liquor in the traditional recipe and I appreciate it very much. Beautiful to look at and, trust me, delicious to taste!
