Lovely Panties... from Old T-shirts! (plus: How to sew FOE on!) - Mutandine da vecchie T-shirts (in più: come applicare il FOE!)

 Ok, this time I'm explaining you how to sew something "unmentionable": your daughter's panties :)I know nobody would ever think to sew underwear... eeek, why? Is really simple and pure fun, believe me!Plus, we'll use something everybody has in his house: old T-shirts!But, first things first!What you'll need:
- Old T-shirts for the main fabric, choose the colour you like most!- Old White T-shirts for the inside tab, to avoid intimate skin irritations!- FOE or Fold Over Elastic (for every pair of your Lovely Undies you'll need about 1 mtr of it: 20 cm for front + 20 cm for back + 33 cm for each leg)- for the Frugal Version you can substitute 40 cm of FOE with a 4mm flat elastic- the Lovely Panties free pattern (size 4-5 yo). Seam Allowances of 1 cm are included (where you need them - you can see where they are because of the corresponding dashed sewing line)

Let's start printing and assembling the pattern (3 sheets of paper, print it without resizing! You can check the 1 inch square drawn in one of the sheets), then cut the pattern pieces and draw the outlines on a T-shirt, using a felt pen, trying to put it on the straight grain (you need to have the stretch side along the waistline, or you won't be able to wear the Lovely Panties!).
I suggest to cut the tab once in the T-shirt you've chosed and one on the white knit.

For a more frugal version, you can lay the front and back pattern on the t-shirt hem, so you'll use it like an elastic case (already done!), to be filled with the 4mm elastic, cheaper than FOE.

Here you don't need to follow the top border of the pattern: keep all the hem, without cutting it!

Now you can sew together the four knit pieces, laying them like in the pic (pay attention to the front sides):

You have to roll both front and back and "sandwich" them between the two tabs, then sew!

Turn everything and magically a pair of panties will appear... more or less (with a lot of immagination an a dash of faith!)

Now, let's put the elastic on! Two versions available here: the FOE and the Frugal!

But let's start with the FRUGAL one:

Take a 20 cm piece of 4mm height flat elastic and put it inside the casing, helping you with a safety pin, fixing it on both sides with anything you like (a pin or other... I prefer the clips...)

Then sew (or serge) both ends of the back and front pieces, to fix elastics in place.

---FOE---

In the FOE version, you'll sew on your elastic in two times, just to be sure a hole isn't appearing the first time your daughter's teacher help her on the toilet thing (blush)

If you're in hurry, you can try sewing it in one only time, folding it in half and sandwiching your t-shirt fabric inside but... I won't do like this (again!)

I'll show you how to sew on a Fold Over Elastic onto the legs: first put a mark on the halves of both elastics and legs opening, so you'll know how much to stretch your FOE while you sew.

To sew on, you can use either a simple wide zig-zag or a triple zig-zag (n° 2 on my sewing machine)
Just repeat the following steps for the waistband and the legs, trying not to pull the fabric (only the elastic!)

You have to put your FOE with shining side up, under the right side of your front (or back), needle down and start to sew, stretching your FOE while matching the halves marks and then the ending points (don't stretch the fabric!).
I don't have a pic of this step, because... I only have two hands and you need both to sew this way :)

Now we can fold over the fabric our elastic and sew for the second time, this one directly on the FOE


(for the belly line, repeat the same steps!)

Now let's joint the sides, you can either finish only with serger or with a straight stitch at 3mm from the side seams, that will keep seam allowances more flat.


Then it could be finished.... Voilà!

If your daughter won't tell you... "I need a heart on these!"
So you'll simply take a little scrap of maching fabric, cut out a mommy-heart-shape, glue it on the back with a glue stick and stitch it on your daughter's Lovely Panties with a straight stitch... better, no?


Little things to remember:

• Always keep T-shirt hems when you recycle t-shirts, with enough fabric above to cut a pair of Lovely Panties

• keep necklines too (you can use it for new necklines)

• keep every single scrap of fabric (yes I know, I'm ill, I love scraps....): you can always sew on a mommy's-heart if your lovely daughter ask it to you <3

So che nessuno pensa mai a cucire biancheria intima ... e perché mai? E' davvero semplice e divertente, credetemi!
Inoltre, useremo qualcosa che tutti abbiamo in casa da smaltire: vecchie T-shirts!
Ma, andiamo con ordine!
Che cosa ti serve:
- Vecchie magliette per il tessuto principale, scegli il colore che più ti piace!
- Vecchie magliette bianche per la linguetta interna, al fine di evitare irritazioni cutanee intime!
- FOE o Fold Over Elastic (per ogni paio di Lovely Panties ne servirà circa 1 metro: 20 cm per il davanti + 20 cm per il dietro + 33 cm per ogni giro-gamba)
- Per la versione Economica è possibile sostituire 40 cm di FOE con un elastico alto 4 millimetri piatto
- Il cartamodello Lovely Panties da scaricare gratuitamente qui (taglia 4-5 anni). I margini di cucitura di 1 cm sono inclusi (dove servono - ovvero dove, in corrispondenza, c'è la linea di cucitura tratteggiata)
Cominciamo stampando e unendo le parti del cartamodello (3 fogli di carta, stampa senza ridimensionare! Per verificare le dimensioni, misurare il quadrato di 1 pollice per lato disegnato in uno dei fogli), poi tagliare i pezzi del cartamodello e disegnarne i contorni su una T-shirt, con un pennarello, cercando di metterli in drittofilo (è necessario avere il lato elastico in orizzontale, o non saremo in grado di indossare le Lovely Panties!).
Io consiglio di tagliare la linguetta una volta nella T-shirt colorata e uno su quella bianca.
 
Per una versione più economica si può porre la parte anteriore e posteriore del cartamodello lungo l'orlo della t-shirt, usandolo come un portaelastico (già fatto!), da riempire con l'elastico 4mm, meno costoso del FOE.

In questo caso non ritagliare la parte superiore del cartamodello, mantenere l'orlo della t-shirt intero!

Ora cuciamo insieme i quattro pezzi di maglia, disponendoli come in foto (attenzione alla posizione dei lati diritti = right sides)

Arrotolare su sè stessi il davanti (già cucito) e il dietro (da cucire), usandoli dcome ripieno del panino formato dalle due linguette!

Girare tutto e magicamente apparirà un paio di mutandine ... più o meno (con un po' di fantasia ed un pizzico di fede!)

Ora, mettiamo l'elastico: si può fare in due modi: con il FOE e la Versione Economica!

Cominciamo con la Versione Economica

Poi cucire (a macchina o tagliacuci) entrambe le estremità del dietro e del davanti, per fissare in posizione gli elastici Prendere 20 cm di elastico piatto, alto 4mm e metterlo all'interno dell'ex bordo della maglietta, con l'ausilio di una spilla di sicurezza, si fissa su entrambi i lati, con ciò che più vi aggrada (uno spillo o altro ... io preferisco le pinze...)

---FOE ---

Se siete in fretta, si può provare a cucire in una sola volta, piegando a metà il FOE con in mezzo la stoffa ma ... io non credo lo farò (di nuovo!)Nella versione FOE cuciamo in due tempi, giusto per essere sicuri di non veder spuntare un buco (aaargh!) non appena la maestra di asilo di tua figlia la aiuta a rivestirsi in bagno

Come cucire il FOE
Partiamo dal bordo gambe: per prima cosa faccio un segno a penna a metà di entrambi gli elastici tagliati per il giro gamba e a metà del giro gamba stesso, sulla linguetta, così da sapere quanto allungare il FOE mentre si cuce.
Per cucire, è possibile utilizzare un zig-zag ampio semplice o un triplo zig-zag (n ° 2 sulla mia macchina da cucire).
Le seguenti operazioni sono uguali sia per il bordo superiore che per il giro gamba, ricordando sempre  di non tirare il tessuto (solo l'elastico!)
Dovete mettere il FOE con il lato lucido in alto, sotto al davanti o al dietro (anch'esso col lato diritto verso l'alto), abbassare l'ago e iniziare a cucire, tendendo il FOE fino a far corrispondere i segni che indicano la metà di elastico e girogamba.
Non ho una foto di questo passaggio, perché ... Ho solo due mani e servono entrambe per cucire in questo modo :)
Ora si può ripiegare il FOE attorno al tessuto e cucire per la seconda volta, questa direttamente sul FOE



Ripetere gli stessi passi per il bordo superiore
Ora uniamo i fianchi: è possibile rifinire cucendo semplicemente con taglia-cuci oppure impunturando con un punto dritto a tre mm dalle cuciture laterali, che aiuterà a tenere i margini di cucitura più piatti.
Adesso potremmo aver finito.... Voilà!
...se solo tua figlia non ti dicesse ... "A queste mutandine manca un cuore...me lo  cuci, mammina?"
Quindi prendi un pezzetto di tessuto in tinta, lo tagli a forma di cuore-di-mamma, passi un velo di colla stick sul retro e lo cuci sulle Lovely Panties di tua figlia con un punto dritto ... meglio, no?

Piccole cose da ricordare:

• Quando si riciclano vecchie magliette, mantenere una striscia in basso, vicino all'orlo, sufficiente a ritagliare un paio di Lovely Panties
• mantenere anche gli scolli (da utilizzare per nuovi scolli) ed ogni piccolo ritaglio di stoffa (sì, lo so, sono malata, io amo i ritagli ....): si può sempre usare per cucire un cuore-di-mamma, se la vostra figlia adorata ve lo chiede <3
