Meraviglia delle meraviglie: milioni di libri scontati su centinaia di bancarelle allestite da librerie, studi bibliografici e collezionisti d'Italia e non solo (c'erano stand anche francesi). Una goduria per i lettori e i bibliofili, per gli studenti amanti dei testi e anche per gli amanti dei fumetti. Prime edizioni, libri fuori catalogo, libri pregiati e introvabili si dispongono uno accanto all'altro, i titoli si rincorrono, i volumi si accumulano e il cliente gioisce.
Wonder of wonders: million books discounted on hundreds of stalls set up by libraries, bibliographic studies and collectors in Italy and not only (there were also French stands). That'a been a pleasure for readers and book lovers, students, and also for comics lovers. First editions, out of print books, vintage and hard to find books are next to each other, titles run after the others, volumes accumulate themselfes and the customers enjoy it soooo much.

Si tratta di un'impresa non da poco: bisogna avere tempo, pazienza e forza (non solo di volontà! Parlavo di muscoli, gli acquisti pesano!). Prima di entrare al padiglione 1 della vecchia fiera Milano (fermata Amendola della Metro Rossa) ho visto uscire un uomo con sulle spalle un grande mappamondo antico (stupendo), ma uscendo di lì ci siamo sentiti un po' tutti come Atlante, reggendo il peso dei nostri nuovi/vecchi libri.
It's a great feat: you have to have time, patience and strength (that means not only will! I'm talking about muscles: purchases are so heavy!). Before I join the Hall 1 of the old Milan fair (Amendola Metro on Red line) I saw a man come out with a great antique globe on his shoulders (it was outstanding), but going out there we all felt a bit like Atlas, carrying the weight of our new / old books.

Sono stata alla fiera di sabato, con mio papà. Sono uscita con grandi affari e grosse soddisfazione. Non c'è genere assente: dalla narrativa ai classici della letteratura, ai vecchi libri per ex-bambini nostalgici ai fumetti (gli stand dei fumetti mi son sembrati ben più interessanti di molti di quelli visti a Torino Comics), dalla filosofia all'hobbistica, dai viaggi alla cucina (non è fantastico il librone "Il Cuoco Piemontese"?). Ogni lettore può trovare i suoi e tornare a casa contento.
I was at the fair on Saturday, with my dad. I went out with great bargains and good satisfactions. Any literary genre is in: from fiction to classic literature, from old books for nostalgic ex-children to comics (I think the stands of comics was even more interesting than many of those I'd seen at Torino Comics), from philosophy to craft and hobbies books, from travel to cooking and recipes books (It's amazing this big book titled "Il Cuoco Piemontese", isn't it?). Every reader can find his/her interests and go home very happy.

E' bene arrivare con qualche desiderio preciso, ma anche frugare e lasciarsi convincere dai libri stessi. Io e mio papà abbiamo comprato vari Meridiani Mondadori a metà prezzo, un libro della collana Millenni Einaudi sempre a metà prezzo, vari libri a 5/10 € e un libro che credevo introvabile l'ho pagato un euro (UNO!!!).
Insomma non è difficile fare affari. Non siate timidi con le contrattazioni, ma non funzionano con tutti. Tentare non nuoce e in queste situazioni i più facili sono i forfait. Quindi ponderare, non comprare alla prima vista se il prezzo è alto (io ho preso un libro a 25€ quando un'altro venditore mi aveva chiesto 40€ per lo stesso volume) e l'affare è fatto!
Arriving with some precise desire is a good thing, but rummaging and being convinced by the books themselves are too. My dad and I have bought several Meridiani Mondadori (a prestigious book series very expensive) at half price, a book published by Millenni Einaudi (another expensive series) at half price again, various books for 5/10 € and a book that I thought unobtainable that I paid just one euro (JUST ONE!!).
So it isn't difficult to make advantageous purchases. Don't be shy with the trading, but it could be useless with someone. In these situations there's no harm in trying and it could be opportune to manage a forfait payment. So ponder, don't buy at the first sight if the price is high (I bought a book for 25€ when another seller asked me 40€ for the same) and the deal is done!

La Fiera del Libro Usato si svolge sempre a Milano sempre nel weekend dell'8 dicembre, motivo per cui non c'ero mai stata: di solito in questo periodo siamo in montagna. Però il consiglio è quello di farci un salto:vale la pena. Tra l'altro si dice che il giorno giusto sia l'ultimo, siccome i negozianti son meglio disposti a fare affari, ma, ovviamente, è da considerare che i libri più interessanti probabilmente sono stati venduti nei giorni precedenti.
The Used Book Fair is always held in Milan always during the weekend of December 8th, and that's why I've never been there, because of my family and I usually at this time we are in the mountains. But the advice is to pop round to this place, I think it deserve a visit. In addition among other things, they say that the right day is the last, because retailers are better prepared to discount, but, of course, you've to consider that probably the most interesting books have been sold in previous days.

Insomma il pollice è sicuramente su. Niente delusioni, anzi. Ben organizzata, alla portata di tutti, e non ci sono arrosti mancanti sotto il fumo. Evviva il Salone del Libro Usato di Milano (oso: meglio del Salone del Libro di Torino)(per una questione di prezzi ovviamente, non di reperibilità/eventi/blabla)!
In short, the thumb is definitely up. No disappointment, indeed. It was well organized, accessible to everyone, and there are no big hats and no trousers. So, Long live the Used Book Fair of Milan (I try to dare: it's even better than the International Book Fair in Turin) (of course just about the prices, not for availability / events / blabla)!
