Here I am with a new post dedicated to Amsterdam: I will speak here about the flight, the hotel and I will start to show you some pictures I took along the canals (one of the main features of the city: that is why it is called "the Venice of the North"), having fun playing with reflections and very peculiar silhouette of the roofs of houses.
The views from many bridges are often very painterly and evocative. It is not difficult to find a magnificent sight!

Partiamo dall'inizio: il volo. Noi abbiamo viaggiato da Malpensa (che è raggiungibile da Milano con un autobus che costa 7 €) e siamo arrivate a Shiphol, che è l'unico aeroporto di Amsterdam - piccolo ma comodamente vicino al centro città.
Let's start from the beginning: the flight. We traveled from Malpensa (which is reached from Milan by bus which costs € 7) and we arrived in Shiphol, which is the only airport in Amsterdam - small but conveniently close to downtown.

Abbiamo volato con easyjet spendendo sui 25 € per ogni biglietto (senza valige da imbarcare, solo bagaglio a mano). Il viaggio dura un'ora e mezza circa.
We flew with easyjet spending about € 25 per ticket (we'd not suitcases to be loaded, hand-luggage only). The trip takes an hour and a half.

period: march 2012Da Shiphol si prende un treno che costa 3,80 € e si arriva in stazione centrale. Questa è raggiungibile comodamente dal centro ed è alle porte del quartiere a luci rosse. Tuttavia, avendo comunque il bagaglio, è consigliabile fare un biglietto del tram (si può acquistare direttamente a bordo) per 2,70 € (il biglietto poi dura un'ora).
Fuori dalla stazione c'è un centro informazioni dove poter prendere dei depliant con le varie tratte dei tram.Come vi dicevo, la città è servita principalmente dai mezzi di superficie: la metropolitana ha una tratta molto breve e un po' defilata.
Credo sia importante fare preventivamente questo tipo di calcolo. Alla fine un viaggio che si pensa essere costato 50 € in realtà è costato 77 - e va ancora bene, siccome con un volo Ryanair da Bergamo a London Gatwick, per lo stesso motivo si spendono quasi 50€ in più!
From Shiphol you take a train for € 3.80 to get at Central Station. This is easily reached from downtown and is just outside the red light district. However, while still having your luggage, you should take a tram ticket (can be purchased on board) for € 2.70 (the ticket works for an hour).
Outside the station there is an information center where you can pick up some brochures with many sections of the tram.As I said, the city is served primarily by surface transport: the metro is a bit short and tight angle.
I think it's important to advance this type of calculation. Actually a journey which is believed to cost 50 € cost 77 - and still going well, if you think that a Ryanair flight from Bergamo to London Gatwick, for the same reason costs almost 50 € extra!

period: march 2012Noi (ho viaggiato con mia sorella) siamo state davvero molto fortunate: il nostro hotel si trovava in una posizione più che ideale - non avremmo davvero potuto sperare di meglio!
Abbiamo prenotato il Downtown Hotel attraverso booking.com.Cercavamo un hotel molto economico che però fosse in una posizione tale per cui due ragazze sole potessero stare tranquille e comode per girare il centro. Inoltre di solito come unico paletto nella ricerca dell'hotel meno caro tengo fermo il fatto di avere il bagno in camera e non in comune.
We (I traveled with my sister) were very lucky: our hotel was in a more than ideal location - we really could not ask for anything better!
We booked Downtown Hotel through booking.com.
We looked for a very cheap hotel but that was in a position where two girls alone could be quiet and comfortable to run the center. In addiction I usually keep just a still point in search of the cheapest hotel: the fact of having a bathroom in the room and not in common.

period: march 2012Il Downtown è riuscito comodamente a rispecchiare tutte queste esigenze. Per 3 notti abbiamo speso 156€ in tutto in una doppia con anche la colazione a buffet inclusa. Lo staff è stato gentile e disponibile come poche altre volte mi è accaduto. Cordiale e affabile, il ragazzo alla reception (il mitico George!) ci ha anche indicato sulla cartina i migliori mercati della città e dove poter affittare le biciclette a buon mercato. Insomma un servizio più che completo!
The Downtown reflects all these needs. Three nights cost around € 156 in a double room including breakfast buffet. The staff was helpful and friendly as a few other times I have happened. The guy at the reception (the legendary George!) is cordial and amiable: he has also indicated on the map the best markets of the city for us and where we could rent bikes on the cheap. In short, a more than complete service!

Our room was modest but comfortable. With even an additional bed and a nice shower. The only flaw: the laundry. The towels were not changed (and, oh well) and the sheets had holes in several places. But in short, these last things are not important. I'd get there again and I would recommend it to young couples or groups of friends they want to visit Amsterdam for a few days.

La colazione comprendeva dolce e saltato (personalmente non riesco a concepire la colazione salata, ma c'è chi apprezza) con una buona torta allo zenzero e cannella, pane da tostare, pane dolce, marmellate, bevande calde, latte freddo e muesli. Decisamente non male dato il prezzo (e i prezzi standard delle caffetterie!!).
The breakfast included and skipped and desserts (personally I can not conceive of the savory breakfast, but there are those who appreciate it) with a good cake with ginger and cinnamon, toasts, sweet breads, jams, hot drinks, cold milk and muesli. Definitely not bad! And a great the price (even more so the standard price at the cafes!).
