ancora con i vestiti estivi a costo zero - yet more zero cost summer clothes

mamma mia, come passa il tempo. volevo fare questo posto poco dopo l'ultimo post su come ricavare vestiti per l'estate molto velocemente, ma stavo in ferie e non ce l'ho fatta. abbiamo fatto un bel giro nel nord italia, in zone dove non ci ero mai stata, facendo passeggiate in montagna, vedendo amici, e respirando aria buonissima. e di solito stavamo senza possibilità di usare internet.
geez, how time flies. i'd wanted to write this post shortly after the last one about how to obtain summer clothes quickly and easily, but i was on vacation and just couldn't. we took a nice road trip around northern italy, in areas where i'd never been before, climbing mountains, visiting friends, and breathing good air. and usually we were without internet access.
 
torniamo al noi. questo estate, non volevo comprare i vestiti, anche se alcuni articoli mancavano ai miei figli. (quello che abbiamo, a parte i calzini, è di seconda mano da altri bimbi.) per prima ho sistemato i leggings estivi per mia figlia. poi toccava ai fantasmini. non ce li avevo per i miei figli, solo i calzini lunghi consumati che non potevo proprio passare a qualche altro bimbo. quindi la mia soluzione? ZAC!
anyway, back to us. this summer, i didn't want to buy clothes, even if my kids were missing some key articles. (what we already had, except for the socks, was second-hand from other kids.) first of all, i got my little girl all set with summer leggings. then i needed to procure some ankle socks. i didn't have any for my kidlets, just long ones that were too worn out to pass on to another kid. so my solution? SNIP SNIP!

e per mia figlia. non si sfilano nel lavaggio e quando torna il tempo più fresco, andranno nelle mie buste di stoffe per imbottire altre cose (come ho fatto per i pouf e per i cuscini). senza sprechi!
and for my little gal. they don't unravel in the wash and when it starts getting cooler again, they'll just go into my bags of scraps for stuffing other projects (like my poufs and pillows). waste not, want not!

o forse sì? non so bene come potrei usare la parte di sopra dei calzini tagliati.
or maybe there was waste? i'm not really sure how to use the top parts of the cut socks.

un giorno mia figlia ne ha portato un paio come quelle cose che usano alcuni atleti sui polsi. voi avete qualche altra idea? pensavo forse di cucirli insieme per fare un gioccatolo a forma di serpente, ma non sono facili da cucire perché sono piccoli e si arricciano con la macchina da cucire. hmmm....
one day my daughter wore them on her wrists like some athletes do. do you guys have any ideas? i thought i could sew them together to make a snake toy, but they're not easy to sew because they're so small and the ruffle up when sewing. hmmm....

il prossimo articolo mancante: mio figlio aveva solo un paio di body a maniche corte, una cosa che usiamo molto spesso. di quelli a maniche lunghe, invece, ne avevamo una tonnellata. quindi, la stessa storia: un paio di forbici...ZAC! li avrei potuto lasciare così, ma ho deciso di finire i bordi con la macchina taglia e cuci.
the next missing article: my boy only had a couple of short-sleeved onesies, something we use a lot. we had loads of long-sleeved ones, though. so the same thing all over again: a pair of scissors... SNIP SNIP! i could've left them like htat, but i decided to serge the edges.

alcuni avevano le maniche un po' troppo larghe, quindi le ho assottigliate prima di tagliare.
some of the sleeves were a bit too wide, so i slimmed them down before cutting.

e per ultimo, mio figlio non aveva molti pantaloncini. ma c'erano diversi rimasti da mia figlia, ma un po' troppo femminili. questi, ad esempio, avevano il merletto sull'orlo.
and last, but not least, my little guy didn't have many shorts. but i had a bunch left over from my daughter that were a bit too girly. these, for example, had lace around the hems.

ho cominciato a togliere i punti per togliere il merletto, ma onestamente mi sono scocciata ben presto. quindi ho preso i soliti forbici... ZAC! e ho fatto un orlo nuovo.
i started taking it off with a seam ripper, but i honestly got sick of doing that pretty quickly. so i got the same old scissors... SNIP SNIP! and a sewed a new hem.

ed ecco fatto! sono riuscita a ricavare abbstanza vestiti per i miei figli per l'estate senza dover spendere un soldo!
and there you have it! i managed to procure enough clothes for my kids for the summer without having to spend a cent!
