Bristol City FC, porte aperte verso la standing area?

Giovedì scorso è stato approvato il piano di ammodernamento da 40 milioni di sterline dello stadio Ashton Gate, presentato congiuntamente dal Bristol City FC e il Bristol Rugby Club, aprendo, come anticipato tempo fà(qui dettagli e immagini del progetto), alla possibilità che sia il primo impianto nel Regno Unito a reintrodurre una standing area dai tempi del Rapporto Taylor, da cui derivò l' obbligò per i club di Premier League e Championship di avere stadi con soli posti seduti.
Il club per muovere i primi passi deve però attendere l' esito anche sulla proposta alternativa presentata all' amministrazione cittadina di costruire un impianto ex novo il cui iter è stato rallentato dall'opposizione di alcuni residenti locali, il passaggio burocratico necessiterà almeno fino a Febbraio per prendere una direzione definitiva.
Indipendentemente dall'esito però probabilmente sarà forte la pressione per la creazione, in entrambi i casi, di una standing area nell'impianto, nel progetto di ammodernamento dell' Ashton Gate presentato a Giugno, che dovrebbe passare dagli attuali 21.500 posti ai circa 26.000 all seat, frutto anche di una consultazione pubblica con i supporters del club, è prevista un' area riservata ai posti in piedi, con seggiolini richiudibili(rail seats) per 3,152 posti, che porterebbe la capienza complessiva a circa 29.000 unità.
Nell'occasione il Guardian.co.ukha pubblicato un articolo(qui originale) che ripercorre brevemente i passaggi recenti sul tema del dibattito, che seguo da tempo e di cui di seguito riporto i post in cui ne parlavo, che sta divampando sul tema della standing area tra i supporters del Regno unito, a cui si sta aggiungendo un numero sempre maggiore di club che sta valutando la proposta.
Le autorità del calcio inglese hanno aperto parzialmente all'idea, la Championship, così come la Football League, sta approfondendo il tema in via ufficiale e in particolare sta analizzando la reale consistenza della possibilità che ci sia soprattutto una revisione delle regole che vietano i posti in piedi, elemento che resta l'ostacolo principale. I vertici della Premier League stanno cautamente aprendo ad un dialogo, mentre la Sports Ground Safety Authority(SGSA), responsabile della concessione delle licenze annuali per l'uso degli stadi nei campionati inglesi, rimane contraria e favorevole ai posti a sedere.
The SGSA's chief executive, Ruth Shaw, said: "While we recognise that there are some fans who may prefer to stand, our view is that seating is generally safer, more comfortable and enables better crowd management. It can also help to create a more inclusive and diverse environment."

He argues that the £100 per seat invested in installing the German-style seats, which flip up for league matches and can be put down for European ties, is good for fans and good for clubs. "It's a sensible option to go for," he said. "There are a number of clubs that recognise how important the atmosphere is because it feeds into the TV product and the revenue. It's very hard to conclude that this is anything other than a better solution for supporters."

Manchester City, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Swansea, Cardiff, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Hull are among clubs actively in favour of exploring the idea.
"Club officials look out across the crowd at big games and see thousands of fans standing in seated areas. It's not ideal from a crowd management point of view so you can see why more and more are coming to the conclusion that safe standing areas are the solution," said a spokesman for the Football Supporters' Federation. "Standing generates a better atmosphere – if you're in church you stand up to sing. Many who prefer to sit still back safe standing too, as separate areas mean they are less likely to have their view blocked."
