AIRONI-SCARLETS 23-26

La quinta vittoria stagionale per gli Aironi resta lontana 3 punti. Gli Scarlets vincono 26-23 allo Zaffanella concretizzando con tre mete altrettante azioni confuse in una partita in cui i padroni di casa hanno giocato meglio, difendendo con sacrificio (con Favaro eletto Man of the match), dominando in mischia chiusa (tanto da meritare anche la meta tecnica per il momentaneo 16-16 a metà secondo tempo) e aprendo l’ovale non appena ne hanno avuto l’occasione. Decisive, per far pendere la bilancia dalla parte gallese, le due mete a metà secondo tempo segnate da Liam Williams e Ben Morgan (quest’ultima però viziata da un clamoroso in avanti proprio a cavallo della linea di centrocampo non rilevato però né dall’arbitro né dal giudice di linea). Nel finale gli Scarlets hanno spinto per cercare la quarta meta per conquistare anche il punto di bonus, ma ad avere la meglio è stata la difesa degli Aironi che proprio all’80’ hanno raggiunto il bonus difensivo con la bella azione di Sinoti e Olivier che ha portato alla meta di Toniolatti.
PRIMO TEMPO
Gli Scarlets si presentano con un cambio rispetto alla formazione annunciata. Jonathan Davies deve rinunciare alla prima presenza da capitano e lascia il posto di primo centro a Stephen Jones. Gli Aironi entrano invece in campo accompagnati da una folta rappresentanza dei ragazzi di alcuni club della franchigia a testimoniare l’unione d’intenti e la volontà di continuare a costruire il progetto della franchigia.
Sono i gallesi a passare per primi in vantaggio dopo 2’. Lacey punisce l’entrata laterale in ruck di Aguero e Priestland dalla lunga distanza centra i pali: 0-3. Pochi giri di lancette e una percussione di Morgan dentro i 22 crea i presupposti della meta per gli Scarlets, ma il passaggio di Owens per Lamont è in avanti e riconsegna il possesso agli Aironi. Gli Scarlets restano però nella metà campo offensiva e vengono anche aiutati dalla fortuna perché il calcio di Priestland rimbalza in area di meta e poi torna in campo mettendo fuori causa Orquera per terminare nelle braccia di Day. Gli Aironi evitano la meta ma lo stesso Orquera nella ruck commette un fallo che Lacey sanziona con il cartellino giallo. La difesa di casa resiste e recupera poi il pallone con Pratichetti e Tebaldi e risalgono il campo fino ai 22 avversari. Un fallo della difesa gallese permette a Tebaldi di pareggiare i conti dalla piazzola: 3-3 al 15’. Tre minuti più tardi, con gli Aironi ancora in inferiorità numerica, Cattina non riesce a togliersi in tempo dal punto del placcaggio e Lacey concede un nuovo piazzato agli Scarlets che Priestland trasforma senza problemi: 3-6. Lo stesso fallo da parte di Turnbull nella metà campo opposta concede immediatamente ad Orquera il pallone del pareggio: 6-6 al 22’ e l’apertura azzurra diventa con questo calcio il primo giocatore degli Aironi a segnare almeno 100 punti in una stagione in tutte le competizioni. Al 29’ gli Scarlets spezzano l’equilibrio con un’azione poco limpida ma che porta Jonathan Edwards in meta (forse dopo essersi liberato con una spinta prima di ricevere l’ovale da Gareth Davies). Priestland trasforma da posizione angolata per il 6-13. Al 35’ gli Aironi restano ancora in inferiorità numerica per il giallo a Favaro, ma sulla ruck è evidente come il giocatore degli Scarlets trattenga l’ovale togliendolo dalla disponibilità dei difensori nero-argento. Priestland aggiunge tre punti al tabellone per il 6-16. Sull’ultimo pallone del primo tempo gli Aironi hanno la possibilità di riaprire la partita, ma dopo la fuga di Cattina, a pochi metri dalla meta Sole – placcato da un avversario – perde il pallone in avanti.
SECONDO TEMPO
La ripresa si apre con gli Aironi ancora in attacco e con gli Scarlets che dopo 5 minuti restano pure loro in 14 per il giallo a Turnbull. Dalla piazzola Orquera accorcia il risultato (9-16). Sono sempre i padroni di casa a premere e al 10’ organizzano una bella maul da touche ai 10 metri, ma in area di meta Ongaro non riesce a schiacciare l’ovale. Sulla mischia che segue il pacchetto degli Aironi domina ancora una volta quello degli Scarlets e si conquista la meta tecnica. Orquera trasforma e riporta il risultato in parità: 16-16 al 12’. E’ ancora la mischia poco dopo a conquistare una punizione da 40 metri che Orquera manda però a lato. Nel momento migliore degli Aironi sono però gli Scarlets ad andare ancora in meta al termine di una lunga azione in cui i padroni di casa avevano anche recuperato il possesso. A schiacciare l’ovale è Liam Williams, che finta il passaggio e poi passa tra Sole e Cattina. La trasformazione da posizione agevole di Priestland centra in pieno il palo: 16-21 al 22’. Al 27’ arriva anche la terza meta degli Scarlets, ancora su un’azione rotta e viziata anche da un pallone perso in avanti e poi recuperato da terra da parte di Liam Williams, che ha permesso un due contro uno concluso da Morgan. Priestland centra ancora il palo sul tentativo di trasformazione: 16-26. Nel finale gli Scarlets cercano la quarta meta, ma sono invece gli Aironi ad andare in meta all’80’ con Toniolatti, che schiaccia in mezzo ai pali un’azione iniziata dal solito Sinoti e proseguita da Olivier. Orquera trasforma e fissa il finale sul 23-26.
INTERVISTE
Silvano Melegari, presidente degli Aironi: “Mi sono commosso ad inizio partita per il supporto dei Miclas, che hanno dimostrato il loro affetto e il loro sostegno non solo alla mia persona, ma anche nei confronti della squadra. Per questo sono andato a ringraziarli personalmente. Il nostro obiettivo è continuare. Sono ottimista di natura e qui non ci sono insolvenze finanziarie tali da giustificare una nostra esclusione. Adesso però lasciamo lavorare le diplomazie, anche se stiamo subendo un danno d’immagine notevole”.
Rowland Phillips, allenatore degli Aironi: “Oggi c’era l’opportunità per vincere. Per battere gli Scarlets devi vincere la battaglia fisica con gli avanti. Noi l’abbiamo fatto per gran parte della partita, ma serviva qualcosa in più. Però sono molto contento della mischia, con un ottimo Romano, sono felice per le strutture sia difensive che offensive. E’ mancata forse un po’ più di calma nei momenti decisivi, in particolare quando siamo entrati nei loro 22 non abbiamo avuto la pazienza necessaria e concretizzato poco rispetto alle occasioni create. Non sono d’accordo sul secondo giallo a Favaro, perché il calcio era per noi. L’arbitro ha deciso così e quello che è stato, è stato. Dispiace perché era un momento importante per prendere in mano la partita. L’anno scorso però nel finale di una gara così contro gli Scarlets avremmo subito altre mete; oggi invece abbiamo difeso bene, recuperato il pallone, l’abbiamo giocato veloce e la meta l’abbiamo segnata noi. E’ il segnale di una crescita continua che la squadra ha avuto dall’anno scorso. A Galway mi aspetto un altro passo avanti per costruire una mentalità di squadra e giocare anche fuori casa con la stessa mentalità con cui ormai affrontiamo tutti i nostri avversari a casa nostra. Sarebbe triste dover essere costretti ad interrompere a metà proprio ora questo lavoro che stiamo portando avanti”.

The fifth win of the season for herons is 3 points away. The Scarlets won 26-23 at Zaffanella enacted through three actions confused many goals in a game in which the hosts have played better, defending sacrifice (Favaro with elected Man of the match), dominating in the scrum closed (it deserves even The penalty try for the momentary 16-16 in the second half time) and the oval opening as soon as they got a chance.
