One could call it “homesickness” or maybe “patriotism” thatspecial kind of feeling that I sometimes experience when abroad. Anyway, I like to promote Italian food and culture, expecially those from Tuscany, where I come from. Just a bunch of basil or rosemary make me feel at home; I close my eyes and the smell takes me thousands of miles far away from here. They say this is the power of food and to me, believe me, it really hasn’t got a price! That brings me to recommend a lovely little place, not to mention its landlady! Some of you probably already know “Cartazucchero” the pizza restaurant in Foiano della Chiana (Arezzo, Italy)…but it’s actually more than a restaurant! Firstly, I would talk about Paola the core of this place, a creative spirit always looking for something new and never tired to change or renew her restaurant. She’s interior designer, carpenter, mother, wife, manager, waitress and much more. Paola is one of those very eclectic people, full of energy and ideas; that’s why I like her so much! Who knows her well can understand what I mean. The restaurant is nestled in the Valdichiana’s countryside near Arezzo. Those who are planning a trip here should definitely stop and enjoy some of the disheswhich “Marcy” (Paola’s husband, otherwise the kitchen’s motor) together with their children can cook traditional flavours presented with great flair and care. What I really love about this place is the warm welcome and the atmosphere so that everyone can feel as at their place. According to the different seasons the place changes a bit but it’s always accompanied by Cartazucchero’s team’s irony and smile. So, get ready to enjoy delicious plates of salami, pici while watching a Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling or teddy bears all around. Every occasion is good for Paola to invent somenthing new. People come here not only to eat well but also to enjoy the atmosphere! If anyone whish to stay overnight there are also some roomsavailable upstairs. One of my last dinners in Italy, before I came to Australia, was there. I took some pictures but I’m sorry the quality is a bit poor because of the lights. Now, if you feel intrigued enough then it’s the right place for you. You won’t be disappointed at all. Finally, I would thank Cartazucchero’s team and Paola to have been so kind and inspirational for me with their food and their style. As soon as I come back I’ll be there! For the moment “good job!”
