the kids decided how to arrange the boxes and i, armed with stapler and transparent packing tape, put them together as they commanded, creating floors, balconies, terraces and different rooms.

come si mantiene aperta la porta? ho spillato degli elastici sotto il coperchio e poi sul bordo della terrazza sopra quelle cose che si attorcigliano intorno alle buste di plastica per tenerle chiuse, piegandole a metà e lasciando spuntare la punta da sopra il bordo. (ero molto orgogliosa di questo dettaglio!)
what keeps the door opened? i stapled elastics under the cover and then folded some twisty-ties (the ones to close plastic bags) in half and stapled them onto the terrace above so that the tips would stick out over the edge. (i was quite proud of this detail!)
abbiamo creato alcune stanze ad aria aperta piegando dei coperchi indietro, spillandoli, ad esempio la scatola bianca qui sotto a sinistra. l'abbiamo attaccata al resto della casa lasciando sotto un passaggio dalla parte davanti della casa verso il retro, come voleva mia figlia.
we made some open-air rooms by folding back some covers and stapling them, for example the white box below and to the left. we attached it to the rest of the house leaving a little passageway underneath leading from the front of the home to the back, as my daughter wanted.
devo dire che abbiamo fatto un bel lavoro e i bimbi si stanno divertendo un mondo con questa casa. (e immagino che fra un mesette sarà piena zeppa di cose com'era il nostro tavolo.) l'unica cosa che non è andata proprio come programmato è il peso quando caricato da mille cosette. immaginavo di poter alzare il tutto quando si doveva spostare per pulire sotto. invece era troppo pesante e si piegava tutto. la soluzione? la famosa casetta di cartone che abbiamo fatto qualche anno fa era ormai distrutta, quindi ho preso una parete dalla quale ho tagliato una striscia lunga. (sì, la nostra gatta si crede una bambola nel lettino per bambole.)
i must say we did a pretty good job and the kids are having loads of fun playing with this dollhouse. (and i bet in a month or so it'll be choc-full of stuff like our table was before.) the only thing that didn't go quite as planned was its weight when filled with a gazillion little things. i'd imagined picking up the whole thing when we needed to move it to clean underneath. however it was too heavy and bent everywhere. the solution? the infamous cardboard playhouse that we made a few years back was at that point destroyed, so i took off a wall and cut out a long strip. (yes, our cat thinks she's a doll in that doll bed.)
l'ho messo sotto tutto, pensando di poter semplicemente alzare la "tavola" di cartone. ma pesava troppo anche per quello. quindi ho fatto un paio di fori da un lato corto del cartone e ho attaccato una corda recuperata. e ora si può trascinare da un posto ad un altro!
i placed the house on top of it, thinking i could simply lift up the cardboard "plank." but it wastoo heavy for that, too. so i punched a couple of holes in one short end of the cardboard and made a loop with a big of recuperated cording. and now you can drag the whole thing from one place to another!
ed eccolo qua: un'altro progetto completamente recuperoso a costo zero che stimola la creatività dei bimbi ogni giorno! (un'altra idea carina è di fare casettine da flaconi grandi di plastica!)
