He is tiny, he is cute and he gots fleas bigger than him!
É arrivata la primavera, finalmente. Ma con la primavera, giunge più forte la voce della mia solita pulce nell’orecchio, è proprio il caso di dirlo: la fobia assurda per le pulci.
Il mostrino cane che abbiamo in casa è piccolo e con il pelo molto corto, per cui non abbiamo molti problemi a individuare pulci e zecche, le poche volte che se le è prese.
Però, dalla prima volta che gli abbiamo visto una pulce, per me e mia sorella è diventata una specie di ossessione.
Ho trovato i dieci comandamenti per combattere le pulci, che sono sempre utili da ricordare anche se li conoscevo già tutti. Dato che è troppo lungo tradurlo tutto, riporto qui sotto solo i comandamenti senza le spiegazioni, sperando che sia utile :)
1) Essere un padrone di cane informato. Ossia sapere che le pulci visibili sono solo il 5% della popolazione effettiva. Il resto della tribù è invisibile: larve, pupe e uova potrebbero essere già nascoste tra i tessuti del divano o dietro battiscopa.
2) Individuare i sintomi. Se il vostro cane si gratta, probabilmente ha una pulce. Imparate a leggere i comportamenti del cane e a individuare subito la puntura del parassita.
3) Trattare i morsi di pulce. Possono diventare pericolosi se si infiammano. Disinfettarli con un antisettico per animali.
4) Distruggere il ciclo di vita delle pulci. L’antipulci tradizionale non uccide le pupe, se si sono annidate sul vostro divano, per esempio. In farmacia vendono dei prodotti appositi: fate buon uso.
5) Applicate un antipulci al cane. Ucciderete le pulci adulte. Io uso anche quello repellente, ben tollerato dal mostrino.
6) Controllate regolarmente il pelo del cane. Come fanno le scimmie: spulciatelo. Solo, magari, non mangiatevi le pulci, se le trovate. Basta ammazzarle.
7) Evitate le aree infestate. Se portate il cane in una zona piena di pulci, non ci sarà spray o unguento che tenga. Cambiate zona e passeggiate altrove.
8) Pulite il giardino. Le pulci e le zecche si annidano tra le foglie e i rami secchi e nell’erba alta. Un giardino in ordine significa prevenzione dai parassiti.
9) Disinfettate casa. I parassiti odiano i luoghi puliti. Un’accurata e costante pulizia di tutto – dai cuscini ai battiscopa di casa – in sinergia con i prodotti di disinfestazione domestici abbassano la possibilità di una infestazione massiva.
10) Usate l’antipulci tutto l’anno. Qui tanti veterinari e padroni di animali si dividono: i parassiti si possono assuefare al prodotto e anche l’animale può soffrirne D’altronde, è sempre un prodotto chimico sul pelo e sulla pelle. Io, per non sbagliare, d’inverno gli applico l’antipulci ogni due mesi. E si è ugualmente riuscito a beccare le pulci a novembre!

I found the Ten Commandments to fight fleas, which are always useful to remember even if I knew them all already. I added some personal notes below that could be interesting for you :)
1) Become an educated dog owner. Don’t you know that adult fleas are only the 5% of the flea population? That creeped my out the first time I heard.
2) Learn the symptoms. It’s not easy realize when a flea has just bitten your dog. It needs practice and a great eye.
3) Treat the flea bites. Watch out the side effects of the ointment/disinfectant you are going to use on your dog. The same for point No 5 and 10.
4) Eliminate fleas in all stages. For the reason explained in point No 1. I use a medical device for the house that I call “the bomb”. I guess it’s able to kill a horse XD
5) Get rid of stray fleas. Avoiding allergies and side effects of course. Once you finde the perfect medication, you will almost hit the jackpot.
6) Regularly check your dog for fleas. Just like monkeys do. Only, perhaps, do not eat the fleas, if you find them. Just kill them.
7) Avoid problem areas. Even if you love that park or garden, leave it and change street for your walks.
8) Groom the yard. Neatness is the keyword as for the point No 9.
9) Exterminate the home. You will surely help fleas to hate your house if you keep it clean, tidy and disinfect. Yes, even with a dog living in it.
10) Use year-round preventive care. Many veterinarians and pet owners are divided about it: the parasites can become accustomed to the medical product as well as the pet may suffer from it: the medical product is always a chemical put on his hair and skin. To be sure I use to apply it to my dog even on the winter, every two months. He has also been able to catch fleas in November the same!
