come vestire una scimmia - how to dress a monkey

immagino che a qualunque mamma che sa cucire viene richiesto ogni tanto vestiti e/o accessori per i giocattoli. almeno per me è così. (alcuni esempi: ossa e collari/guinzagli per cani e travestimenti da sirena per bambole) qualche mese fa stavo preparando dei pannolini per bambole un po' diverse dei pannolini per bambole fatti di pile diversi anni fa. è venuta mia figlia a guardarmi e mi ha chiesto un pannolino per la sua scimmietta preferita, "Mr. Scimmia/Mr. Monkey" (il nome cambia a secondo della lingua parlata delle altre persone nella stanza) con una  tale gentilezza che non ho saputo rifiutare. quindi ho messo a parte i pannolini che stavo facendo (e confesso che da allora non li ho più finito!), le ho fatto scegliere un tessuto e ho fatto quello che potevo al momento.
i'm sure that all mothers who know how to sew get requests every so often for clothes and/or accessories for toys. at least that's how it is for me. (some examples: dog bones and collars/leashes and mermaid costumes for dolls) a few months ago i was preparing some doll diapers a bit differently from my fleece doll diapers i made a few years back. my daughter came to watch me and asked me for a diaper for her favorite monkey, "Mr. Monkey/Mr. Scimmia" (his name depends on the language spoken by the other people present) so nicely that i just couldn't say no. so i put the other diapers aside (and i'll admit that i still haven't finished them!), let her choose a fabric and i did what i could right there and then.

certo, non è perfetto (si vede dai segni lasciati davanti dove va troppo largo), ma non va neanche tanto male. sono due strati di cotone cuciti con la macchina taglia e cuci e chiusura con il velcro.
sure, it's not perfect (you can see the wrinkles in the front part where it's too wide), but it's not too shabby either. there are two layers of cotton overlocked together with a velcro closure.
 
ma la cosa che mi fa proprio impazzire è il buco per la coda. non è simpaticissimo?! che sederino carino! quello l'ho dovuto rifinire con la macchina da cucire normale con uno zig zag e non è stato semplicissimo a causa dello spazio piccolo.
the part that i just love, though, is the tail hole. isn't that just adorable?! what a cute little butt! i had to do the edges of that with a regular sewing machine's zig zag stitch and it wasn't particularly easy considering the small space to move around in.

la soddisfazione più grande, però, è quando tua figlia dice a tutti che sua mamma gliel'ha fatto apposto per lei e anche quando attacca sulla parete i disegni di Mr. Scimmia con il suo pannolino!

the biggest satisfaction, though, is when your daughter tells everyone that her mamma made it just for her and also when she hangs pictures of Mr. Monkey with his diaper on the wall!

ma mica abbiamo finito! perché poi, mesi dopo, c'è stata una difficoltà col togliere un cerotto fai-da-te che aveva messo alla scimmietta (carta igienica e scotch) e ho dovuto tagliare un po' di suo pelo. quindi abbiamo pensato che fosse il caso di fare un cerotto di stoffa per quando Mr. Scimmia si fa male (molto spesso).
but that's not all! because then, months later, there were some i ssues taking off a homemade band-aid that she'd put on the monkey (toilet paper and scotch tape) and i had to cut off a bit of his fur. so we thought that maybe we needed a fabric band-aid for when Mr. Monkey hurts himself (frequently).

stessa storia: si scelgono i tessuti e i colori dei bottoncini e mamma si mette a lavoro.

same story: child chooses the fabric and snap colors and mamma gets to work.

perché ce ne sono due diversi? ah, giusto... perché sembra che anche la pecora ne aveva bisogna! (visto abbiamo trovato un tessuto con una pecorella...)

why are there two different ones? ah, right... because it turned out that the sheep needed one, too! (seeing as we'd even found a fabric with a sheep on it...)

mi fa sempre ridere come ai bimbi piace quando i giocattoli si fanno del male! o quando giocano a ospedale.
it cracks me up how kids love it when their toys get hurt! or when they play hospital.

ora devo solo capire come creare cerotti così che posso usare io ! ;)
now i just need to figure out how to make some band-aids like these ones that I can use! ;)
