Branches and braids, not only of plants, but also of thoughts, words and emotions were the ingredients of the campus organized by the association Maestri di Giardino.

La cinquecentesca Villa la Valverde immersa nella campagna alle porte di Verona è stata scenografia ideale per l’incontro dei Maestri sull’intreccio vegetale, una giornata dedicata ad apprendere un’arte antica che aiuta a trasformare il materiale regalato dal bosco e i residui della potatura, i polloni e il legname da dirado in supporti, punti focali e strutture più complesse per completare un giardino ancora vuoto o rendere altra delizia all’orto.

The sixteenth-century  Villa la Valverde  immersed in the countryside outside Verona was the ideal scenery for the meeting of the Maestri about plant braiding. A day dedicated to learning an ancient art that helps transform the material donated by the forest as well as pruning residues, suckers as well as thinning timber in brackets, focal points and more complex structures in order to complete a still empty garden or provide another delight to the  vegetable garden.

Pillar, cordoli e treillage da oggetti funzionali  trasformati in  elementi di arredo dalla tradizione vernacolare al design. La funzionalità cede il passo al puro piacere estetico e l’oggetto diviene elemento d’arte contemporanea che si integra al paesaggio circostante fino a divenire espressione di Land Art.

Pillar, curbs and treillage transformed from functional objects to elements of furniture from the vernacular tradition to the design. The functionality gives way to pure aesthetic pleasure and the object becomes an element of contemporary art that complements the surrounding landscape to become an expression of Land Art.

Nella giornata si sono alternate dimostrazioni pratiche di lavori dei Maestri Massimo Villa, giardiniere di mestiere e artista dell’ intreccio vegetale per passione e Giampiero Gauna, vivaista la cui esperienza nasce dall’unione di due tradizioni, una proveniente dalla pianura e una dalla montagna, dove l’elemento legno era parte del quotidiano e materia prima per la realizzazione degli attrezzi di lavoro dei campi e degli oggetti di uso domestico. Introduzione storica dalla tradizione all’approccio artistico di Simonetta Chiarugi.

During the day practical demonstrations of the works of the Maestri alternated: Massimo Villa, gardener for work and artist of the plant braiding for passion and Giampiero Gauna, nurseryman whose experience comes from the union of two traditions, one from the plains and the other from the mountains, where the wood as an element was part of everyday life and raw material for the creation of tools to work in the fields and household objects. Il giovane bosco della Valleverde ha fornito ai partecipanti materiale di studio e lavoro e guidati dall’esperienza di Giampiero Gauna, sono state raccolte essenze idonee alla realizzazione di alcuni manufatti e spiegate le particolarità dei diversi legnami.

The young forest of the Valleverde provided participants with study and work material, guided by the experience of Giampiero Gauna, they harvested species suitable for producing some artifacts and were taught the particularities of the various timbers.

Massimo ha introdotto all’arte dell’intreccio con la realizzazione di un cordolo da aiuola, modulo base per ogni altra creazione, di un cesto e di un pillar, tradizionale sostegno per piante rampicanti. Alternando tecniche e manufatti i partecipanti hanno messo al lavoro le mani e preso dimestichezza con le specie vegetali.

Massimo introduced to the braiding art with the making of a curb by flowerbed, foundation form for any other creation, a basket and a pillar, traditional support for climbing plants. Alternating techniques and artifacts, the participants put their hands to work and became familiar with the plant species.

La giornata si è conclusa con la costruzione di una siepe morta, composta da ramaglie, fascine, cortecce e altro materiale che non può essere utilizzato per il compost, traccia viva del passaggio dei maestri nel bosco veronese.

The day ended with the construction of a dead hedge, consisting of branches, twigs, bark and other material that cannot be used for compost, live track of the passage of the Maestri in the woods Verona.
