Elliott Erwitt

Devo ammettere la mia ignoranza: non conoscevo Elliott Erwitt finchè non ho letto un breve articolo su di lui sul mensile delle ferrovie dello Stato. Ed è stato, come si dice, amore a prima vista.
I have to admit my ignorance: I didn't know Elliott Erwitt till I read a brief article about him on the newspaper of the Italian railway society. And it was love at first sight.

Erwitt è del '28, nato a Parigi ma naturalizzato statunitense. Lavorò anche come fotografo dell' esercito USA in Francia e Germania durante la seconda guerra mondiale.
Erwitt was born in 1928 in Paris, but quite soon he went to the US. He worked as photographer for the American army in France and Germany during the world war II.

"Nel 1974 pubblicò il libro fotografico Son of a Bitch, in cui erano raccolti numerosi scatti di cani ripresi in pose o situazioni buffe. Fu grazie a questo genere di foto che il lavoro di Erwitt fece il giro del mondo." (da Wikipedia).

It was thanks to these photos of dogs in strange poses, pubblished in 1974 on the book "Son of a Bitch" (!), that Erwitt could become famous.
