Follow that dream - preview ottobre 2013

Va bene, torniamo al lavoro dopo aver disertato il blog per due settimane abbondanti! In effetti l'annuncio di nuovi prodotti targati Follow That Dream riesce sempre ad elettrizzarmi e a riportarmi sulla retta via... Vediamo nel dettaglio queste tre emissioni, che manco a dirlo si preannunciano molto interessanti. Uscita prevista ottobre (CD) e novembre (vinile), mentre sono già stati annunciati altri due doppi CD, sempre per novembre: Moody Blue e Elvis At American Sound.

Quando gli fu sottoposto il materiale che sarebbe confluito nella colonna sonora di G.I. Blues, Elvis non ne rimase molto contento. Non aveva tutti i torti, dal momento che si ritrovò ad avere a che fare con quanto di più leggero e disimpegnato avesse mai inciso, ma a dispetto delle sue iniziali rimostranze fece un ottimo lavoro in studio. Io invece adoro questa soundtrack, fortemente caratterizzata da atmosfere europee, vita sotto le armi e reminiscenze di Rock 'n' Roll, edulcorato e ormai completamente assimilato e rielaborato da Hollywood. Grazie a questo secondo volume della serie possiamo ascoltare un'altra valanga di outtakes che, ne sono certo, stazioneranno nel mio lettore CD per parecchio tempo.

THE ON STAGE SEASONThe Opening and Closing Shows - February, 1970[2 CD + Booklet , 7"]
Lo si evince dal titolo, questo doppio CD ci riporta alla seconda stagione di Elvis a Las Vegas, durante la quale fu appunto registrato il bellissimo live On Stage - February, 1970 che conteneva anche due brani del 1969. Il contenuto di The On Stage Season è decisamente appetibile: l'Opening show della stagione (26 gennaio 1970) e il Closing show della stessa (23 febbraio 1970). Per molti appassionati questi due spettacoli non rappresentano una novità, visto che sono già stati proposti a più riprese in forma non ufficiale. Potrebbe tuttavia essere riscontrata una migliore qualità audio e non sarebbe poco. Sul fronte della copertina non viene riportato il nome dell'artista, nel pieno rispetto dell'artwork del già citato album del 1970.

Probabilmente molti di voi non saranno d'accordo con me, ma le pur bellissime edizioni in vinile della Follow That Dream non mi entusiasmano più di tanto. L'epoca d'oro dei Long Play è finita da un bel pezzo e queste emissioni non me la fanno certo rivivere, le trovo fuori tempo massimo, quasi irreali. Ma, ovviamente, diventano imprescindibili quando contengono materiale alternativo. E' il caso di questo From Elvis In Memphis, grazie al quale possiamo ascoltare ampie porzioni del work in progress di un album meraviglioso, in assoluto uno dei miei preferiti di sempre.
