Food of the Heart

During my three weeks between London and Cambridge I had the chance to give up sometimes the fresh pea&mint soup from Waitrose (although really good) to try a tasty meal in some nice place. Here's a little guide of my beloved places, the ones in which the food is good (but far from the mom's one), the atmosphere is pleasant, and the price is reasonable. Have you got any other place to suggest me ?In tre settimane tra Londra e Cambridge ho avuto la possibilità di rinunciare qualche volta alla zuppa pronta piselli&menta di Waitrose (per altro buonissima) per concedermi un pasto in qualche locale sfizioso. Ecco quindi una mini guida dei miei posti del cuore, quelli in cui il cibo è buono (mai quanto quello della mamma però), l'atmosfera accogliente, e il prezzo ragionevole. Avete qualche altro posto da suggerirmi ?
The Orchard Tea Garden (45-47 Mill Way, Grantchester)

Few miles away from Cambridge city centre there's a restaurant with a huge garden where you can taste delicious soups (my favourite is carrots and coriander), homemade cakes (even the typical scones with raisin) and of course a classic English tea. A lovely place consorted even by famous people; from Virginia Woolf to Hugh Laurie.
A poca strada dal centro di Cambridge c'è una locanda ristorante con un enorme giardino dove gustare deliziose zuppe (la mia preferita è quella alla carota e coriandolo), dolci fatti in casa (tra cui i tipici scones con uvetta) e ovviamente il classico thè inglese. Un luogo da favola frequentato anche da personaggi importanti; da Virginia Woolf a Hugh Laurie.
Leon Restaurant (London)

It's my favourite restaurant in London (there are about 10 only in the city) and every time I go there I try something different. But I also have few favourite dishes like chicken with avocado, the chocolate brownie, the carrots mash and the homemade lemonade of course.
E' il mio ristorante preferito a Londra (ce ne sono una decina solo in città) e ogni volta provo sempre qualcosa di diverso. Ma ci sono dei piatti forti che non sostituirei mai, ad esempio il pollo con avocado, il brownie al cioccolato, il mash con carote e ovviamente la limonata casalinga.
The Eagle Pub (8 Bene't Street, Cambridge)

A pub famous for the DNA revelation from Watson and Crick, but also for the large range of beer and food that it offers. My favourite dish has to be the  chicken topped with bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce, with fries and salad as a side.
Un pub famoso per la scoperta del DNA da parte di Watson e Crick, ma anche per la vasta gamma di birre e cibo che offre. Il mio piatto preferito è il pollo con bacon, formaggio e salsa barbecue insieme a patate fritte e insalata.
Jacket Potato Stand (Market Square, Cambridge)

In a corner of the market square you can find a stall that serves delicious jacket potatoes to be filled as you like most. My favourite is with cheese and sweetcorn.
In un angolo della piazza del mercato potete trovare una bancarella che serve delle deliziose jacket potato da riempire a vostro piacimento. La mia preferita è con formaggio e mais.
Otto Cafè (57 Regent Street, Cambridge)



A small cafè with a garden always open perfect for the breakfast (you have to try the scambled eggs) or for lunch (super recommended the snack with hummus, pita and tortillas, the crepe with cheese and ham and the almond and chocolate cake).
Un piccolo locale con giardino quasi sempre aperto perfetto per la colazione (da provare le uova strapazzate) o per il pranzo (consigliatissimo l'aperitivo con hummus, pita e tortillas, la crepe con formaggio e prosciutto, e la torta di mandorle e cioccolato).
Peacocks Tearoom (65 Waterside, Ely)



The place where I tasted the most amazing earl grey with citrus tea ever. And all the cakes are amazing, but my favourites have to be the scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam or the hot chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.
Il posto dove ho assaggiato il miglior earl grey al cedro di sempre. E anche tutte le torte sono fantastiche, ma i miei dolci preferiti sono gli scones con panna e marmellata di fragole o il brownie al cioccolato caldo con gelato alla vaniglia.
