Fragrances on Video: Eau Sauvage by Dior

Lo scorso anno, Dior ha deciso di riproporre una delle sue fragranze più note: l'Eau Sauvage, creata per la maison nel 1966 da uno dei nasi* più famosi e talentuosi del mondo, Edmond Roudnitska. Per rilanciarla in grande stile, si è pensato di creare uno spot interamente vintage, utilizzando alcune immagini di uno dei film più famosi del bellissimo Alain Delon, La Piscine, girato nel 1968 dal regista francese Jacques Deray - nel cast c'era anche la stupenda Romy Schneider, una delle mie icone al femminile. A mio avviso, la scelta è azzeccata sotto ogni punto di vista: la pellicola è contemporanea alla creazione della fragranza, e i colori e le riprese vecchio stile si prestano perfettamente per valorizzare tutto il fascino di uno dei profumi più conturbanti e sovversivi del mondo. Poi, quale miglior testimonial di Alain, all'epoca davvero all'apice del suo fascino, e così diverso da tutti gli attori e modelli di oggi.Ecco il video:

Questa pubblicità, oltre a essere una gioia per gli occhi - suvvia, diciamolo! - mi permette anche di parlare un po' di una fragranza davvero storica e leggendaria, che è diventata il simbolo di un'epoca. Siamo nei tumultuosi anni Sessanta, quando si pensava che il mondo potesse essere stravolto e che i sogni avessero il diritto di essere vissuti nella realtà. Purtroppo non è stato sufficiente, ma quello che è successo in quegli anni ha davvero cambiato il nostro futuro. Eau Sauvage, inizialmente destinato a un pubblico maschile, è in breve tempo diventato il primo profumo unisex, portato anche dalle donne. Il desiderio era quello di abbattere ogni barriera che ostacolasse l'uguaglianza e la libertà, e Roudnitska ha deciso per questo di inserire nella fragranza le note floreali, fino ad allora banditi dai profumi maschili. Abbinando note di cuore come gelsomino e rosa a note di fondo quali muschio e vetiver, il risultato è un prodotto unico, il profumo preferito da tutti i rivoluzionari francesi, dai sognatori e da chi crede ancora che le cose possano essere cambiate se solo lo si vuole veramente.

To boost the perfume with a great attitude, they created a new vintage advertisement, using some shots from one of the most known film featuring gorgeous Alain Delon, La Piscine, shoot in 1968 by French director Jacques Deray - also the amazing Romy Schneider - one of my female icon - starred in this film! In my opinion, the pick is guessed in every possible way: the film is contemporary to the creation of the perfume, old-fashioned colors and shooting are perfectly fitting with the fascination of one of the greatest and rebellious perfume in the whole history. Plus, who better than Alain, which at that time was at his most beautiful, so different from actors and models nowadays. Here's the video (look up!)This advertisement, besides being a delight for the eyes - c'mon, let say this! - give me the chance to talk a bit about a fragrance which is truly historic and mythical, becoming the emblem of an era. We are in the rowdy Sixties, when people used to think that the world could be put upside down, and dreams got the right to become true reality. Sadly that wasn't enough, but what happened in those years really changed a bit our future. Eau Sauvage, born as a male perfume, quickly became the first unisex fragrance, worn also by women.  The wish was to overthrow all the walls hindering freedom and equality, and Roudnitska for this reason decided to put in the perfume some floral, until then banished by male fragrances. Mixing up middle notes like jasmin and rose with base notes such as musk and vetiver, the result is an unique artwork, beloved by French riots, dreamers and by people who still belive that things can be changed if you really want to. * nose is the proper name for artist which create new perfumes and fragrances!
