Two years ago, when Mark from Australia was back from his first Scram Africa he was so excited that he asked Karl Vives to build him a new bike for the 2015 ride. An unusual 1977 street R100/7 was chosen and properly converted in an effective classic scrambler.
Due anni fa, quando Mark, dall'Australia, è tornato dal suo primo Scram Africa, era così contento che ha chiesto a Karl Vives di costruirgli una nuova moto per il ride di quest’anno. E’ stata scelta una improbabile R100/7 stradale del 1977 che è stata però adeguatamente trasformata in scrambler, classica e efficace.
The new front end is coming from a Suzuki DR 650. The rear shocks were replaced with longer Ohlins. The stock oil pan has been changed with a new slimmer one to improve its reliability and the ground clearance. The 17 litres fuel tank is from a BMW R27. Interesting detail is the compass installed on the top side of the fuel tank, just below the fuel cap. The exhausts are new and with a classic scram design and the muffler is coming from an Ural. Tires were personally chosen by Mark: Maxxis Maxxcross Soft Terrain at the rear, a tyre designed for riding mud and sand, and Pirelli Scorpion MX at the front. Inside the tires, Fuel mounted a Nuetech Tubliss tubeless system, which replaces conventional inner tubes with a small 100 PSI insert (6.9 bar) that creates two different pressure zones inside the tire itself. This increases tire stability and reduces the risk of punctures. In turn, this allows to run very low tire pressure to gain traction in mud and sand. The bike completed the 2,000 km 2015 ride perfectly fit. Not too bad for an almost 40 y.o. bike.
Il nuovo frontale arriva da una Suzuki DR 650. Gli ammortizzatori posteriori sono stati sostituiti con Ohlins più lunghi. Il carter dell’olio è stato cambiato con uno nuovo e più sottile per migliorare l'affidabilità e la luce a terra. Il serbatoio del carburante da 17 litri, ritenuti sufficienti per le tappe del ride, è di una BMW R27. Dettaglio interessante è la bussola montata sul lato superiore del serbatoio del carburante, appena sotto il tappo. Gli scarichi alti sono nuovi e con un design scrambler classico e il terminale è di derivazione Ural. Gli pneumatici sono stati scelti personalmente da Mark: Maxxis Maxxcross per terreni morbidi al posteriore, un pneumatico progettato per fango e sabbia, e Pirelli Scorpion MX nella parte anteriore. Nelle gomme, alla Fuel hanno montato un sistema tubeless Nuetech Tubliss, che sostituisce le camere d'aria convenzionali con un piccolo tubo gonfiato a 100 PSI (6,9 bar), che crea due diverse zone di pressione all'interno del pneumatico. Questo aumenta la stabilità del pneumatico ed elimina pizzicature. Inoltre, il sistema consente di mantenere bassa la pressione degli pneumatici a guadagnare trazione nel fango e sabbia. La moto ha completato i 2000 km del ride 2015 perfettamente in forma. Non male per una moto quasi quarantenne.
