Gare d'Orsay - one of the best museums in the world

Frutto del genio dell'architetto e designer italiana Gae Laurenti, la Gare d'Orsay nel 1986 apre le sue porte come museo. Pietra chiara, volte di vetro e metallo, una navata, varie terrazze, 3 livelli. Uno spazio espositivo che è riuscito, pur mantenendo gli spazi dell'originaria stazione ferroviaria, a ricavare un luogo perfetto per ospitare una collezione permanente da brivido stendhaliano.

Created by that genius of the Italian architect and designer Gae Laurenti, the Gare d'Orsay in 1986 opened its doors as a museum. Colored stone, glass and metal vault, a nave, several terraces, 3 levels. An exhibition space that is managed, while maintaining the original space of the railway station, to obtain a perfect place to host a permanent collection that let you thrill like Stendhal said.

Luci, ombre, chiaroscuri. Orologi, vetrate, volte. Un ambiente suggestivo e parigino come pochi altri. Perfetto per essere fotografato e per godere delle opere di Edouard Manet, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Vincent Van Gogh e altri vari.

Lights, shadows, chiaroscuri. Clocks, windows, vaults. A charming environment that taste of Paris like few others. Perfect to be photographed and to enjoy the works of Edouard Manet, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Vincent Van Gogh and many others.

Incredibile l'intensità dell'ultimo piano, in cui è concentrato l'impressionismo e il pre-impressionismo (se ahinoi così siamo costretti a chiamare l'opera di Manet). Un museo poco faticoso -fisicamente-(per il Louvre ci vuole allenamento - probabilmente nelle palestre francesi ci sono corsi di resistenza per reggere la giornata al Louvre), ma intenso come pochi altri al mondo io abbia visitato (forse anche per un affetto personale, ma è certamente grandioso).

The intensity of the top floor is really incredible, where it is concentrated impressionism and pre-impressionism (if so we sadly had to call the work of Manet). A museum not so (physically) hard (you need a training to get to Louvre - probably in French gyms there are courses to train your resistance to the day at the Louvre) but intense as a few others I've visited in the world (perhaps even for a personal affection, but is certainly outstanding).

Le ninfee di Monet, Le déjeuner sur l'herbe di Manet, le ballerine di Degas, il Bal au Moulin de la Galette di Renoir, l'autoritratto di Gauguin, i Giocatori di Carte di Cézanne e il Ritratto del dottor Gachet di Van Gogh - solo per citarne alcuni. Grandi capolavori raccolti con capacità e accortezza nelle sale del museo. Non ho visto un riverbero, nessuna difficoltà nella visione delle opere (sembra cosa da poco ma è un errore di allestimento frequente quanto fastidioso!)

The water lilies by Monet, Le dejeuner sur l'herbe by Manet, Degas's dancers, the Bal au Moulin de la Galette by Renoir, self-portrait by Gauguin, CardPlayers by Cezanne and the Portrait of Dr. Gachet by Van Gogh - just to name a few. Great masterpieces collected with skill and foresight in the museum. I have not seen a reverb, no difficulty in viewing the works (it seems a trivial matter but it is a frequent and annoying mistake you can find into the set up of many museums!)

Quando sono andata io l'ultima volta era in corso una mostra sui disegni del nudo di Degas. Ricchissima di materiale e ben allestita, ma troppo (troppo!!!) frequentata. Vi erano code per ogni disegno, per ogni quadro, al punto da rendere la visita fastidiosa e quasi impossibile. Spero voi possiate essere più fortunati!

When I went the last time there was an exhibition about drawings of the nude by Degas. A wealth of material and well prepared, but too (tooooo!!) attended. There were queues for each drawing, each panel, at the point to make the visit unpleasantand almost impossible. I hope you can be luckier than me!

Insomma, una tappa assolutamente FONDAMENTALE per il vostro viaggio a Parigi. Non importa se si tratta della vostra prima volta o della ventesima. Consiglio di recarvici durante i giorni settimanali e nell'ora del pranzo o di prima mattina poiché la coda fuori è lunga e al sole. Ma anche se l'ingresso vi avesse recato sofferenza, ne varrà la pena. Garantito!Tra l'altro per gli studenti sotto i 26 anni l'ingresso è gratuito, come per la stragrande maggioranza dei musei parigini.

In short, an absolutely ESSENTIAL step for your visit in Paris. No matter if it's your first time or the twentieth. I suggest to go there during the week and at the hour of lunch or early in the morning because the queue outside was long and under the sun. But even if you suffered waiting for get into it, it'd deserved it. Guaranteed!
Moreover for students under 26 the ticket is free, as at the vast majority of museums in Paris.
