La borsa, gli arabi, i Londinesi creano un turbinio di denaro che non mi sorprenderei di veder piovere sterline da un momento all' altro. Tutta questa bellezza in vetrina, orologi che costavano quanto camera mia (la metratura), diamanti grandi come cacche di cavallo (l' immagine non è delle più nobili, ma "dai diamanti non nasce niente, dal letame nascono i fior"), e poi... il meraviglioso Breguet double tourbillon, uno dei più stupefacenti orologi al mondo.Quando l' ho visto in vetrina ho cominciato a sbavare. Ci sono passato varie e varie volte. Un giorno, l' ultimo prima della partenza, mi sono deciso a fare il grande gesto... non comprarlo, non vi preoccupate.
As you see in central London there aren't many money problems. The stock exchange, the rich arabians and the same Londoners give the impression that it could be normal to see a rain of pounds. In the shops windows there were diamonds big as pooh of horses (I know it's quite a horrible image, but as we say in Italy, "nothing comes from the flowers, from the muck born the flowers") and, for example, the gorgeous Breguet double tourbillon, simply one of the best watches ever, I think.
When I saw it for the first time it was magic. I passed in from of the window so many times in the next days. Than, the day before leaving, I decided to do the great act... don't worry, I didn't bought it.
Passo varie volte davanti alla vetrina del negozio Breguet. Approfitto di un attimo in cui l' enorme energumeno alla porta svanisce e busso. Entro. "Can I...". Do uno sguardo. Mi rivolgo alla commessa, una sorridente asiatica.Comincio la mia tiritera. Tremo, mi inceppo e il mio (quasi) perfetto British English viene sostituito da un rude, vomitevole accento americano. Non mi chiedete perchè, ma ho cominciato a parlare come uno appena uscito dal Bronx.Le chiedo, dopo averle spiegato tutto il mio amore per gli orologi e Breguet, se posso provare il famoso double tourbillon. C' è un momento di silenzio "cretino, ti pare che dica di sì!?" penso. "Yes, sure", risponde lei, poi mi dice di andarmi a sedere, lo tira fuori dalla vetrina con guanti e precauzioni varie e me lo fa vedere.Le chiedo di provarlo addosso. Mi dice di si, anche se non può chiudere la fibbia, altrimenti l' orologio si rovinerebbe. Poco male, abbiamo rotto il ghiaccio.
I passed many times in from of the Breguet shop.Than, suddendly, the guard at the door disappeared. I entered exactly at that moment and took a look around, than I spoke with the sale assistant. My tongue scrambled and, I don't know why, I began speaking with American accent, while I usually use the British one. However, it looked like I had just came from Bronx.
After I declared my love for watches and especially for Breguet, I asked: "Can I try the double tourbillon?" (I said "tourbillon" as if I was French, putting myself on airs). THere was a silence moment, than she said "Of course", and, with gloves and a lot of care, took the watch with the box out of the window. I asked if it was possible to try it on and she answered it was, but, unfortunately, she couldn't close the buckle, because tey couldn't use so much the watch they would have sold time and time later. However this wasn't a great problem, and we also were getting in confidence more and more.
Il grande problema dell' orologio non è il diametro (credo 44,5 cm), quasi normale, quanto l' altezza, degna di quella di una ciambella di salvataggio.
The diameter is almost normal (I guess 44,5 cm), but the heigh is that one of a lifebelt!
Cominciamo a parlare: la mia passione dell' orologeria, scopro che lei mi aveva già visto bazzicare davanti alle vetrine, che già qualcuno aveva chiesto di polsare questo mostro sacro e qualcuno addirittura ne aveva comprato uno. Quando me lo ha detto ci siamo messi a ridere, "non è un orologio con cui fare la spesa", no, hahah. Oramai eravamo intimi.
We started talking about my passion for watches, so I discovered she already noted me (I imagine my watch-maniac face out of the shop looking at the windows may be worring), that someone had already asked to try on the watch and some one also bought it (well, only one person, but, you know, it costs 300.000 euros!). We talked a lot.
Quando sono sul punto di alzarmi, inchinarmi, baciarle i piedi e andarmene, la ragazza, davvero gentilissima, chiede, per l' ennesima volta, se volessi provare qualcos'altro. A quel punto non resisto e chiedo: avete il Breguet marine? L' avevano solo in nero, mi accontento e rieccomi seduto a provarlo.
When I was about to go away (afer kissing at least twice her feet), the assistant, that was really kind, asked me, for the 10th time or more, if I wanted to try something else. I couldn't manage to resist and asked: "Do yu have the marine". They did, although only in black, but I tried it the same.
Lo adoro: l' eleganza classica Breguet resa un po' più giovanile dal caucciù e dalle maniglie (che-in-verità-non-si-chiamano-così-ma-il-nome-tecnico-proprio-non-mi-viene) più robuste. L' orologio, che in foto potrebbe sembrare un po' pesante per via delle sue forme, evita il problema grazie ai suoi modesti 39 cm. Mi piace troppo la spirale lavorata a mano sul quadrante, dà proprio l' idea dello scorrere del tempo!
J' adore: The classic Breguet elegance and style with a modern touch thanks to the rubber and the thicker joints. The watch could seem a little bit heavy (in a figurative sense), but the modest dimentions (39 cm of diameter) avoid it. I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the hand engraved spiral on the dial, that gives the idea of the stream of time.
Il bellissimo e curatissimo rotore dorato sul retro. Purtroppo non sono riuscito a farne una foto decente, complice anche l' emozione.The wonderful back with the most gorgeous (I'm not sure I could say it, but I do it the same) roter ever. Unfortunately the photos are not so good.
Ho spiegato all' amica Fritz che l' avrei voluto per i 18, e lei si è subito lanciata in una battuta "Ti puoi far regalare questo per i 18 anni e l' altro per i trenta". Scafata, considerando che lavorava lì da sole due settimane. Poi certo, 10.000 euro all' anno con un ritardo di 17 anni alla fine non sono neanche troppi soldi, no? ;)I expleined my new friend I desire that watch for my 18s, so she said: "Yes, this one for the 18 and maybe the other one - she was speaking about the double tourbillon- for the 30'!". She ws very enterprising, also considering that has been working there for just 2 weeks when I was at the shop.
And well, 10.000 euros each year (with 17 years late) are not so much, maybe I could ask my father! ;)
Breguet la tradition
Al lato delle ore 12 c'è una piccolissima scritta, Breguet. La cosiddetta firma magica si legge solo in controluce, fu inventata da A. Louis Breguet a fine '700/inizi '800 e ancora oggi è uno dei metodi utilizzati dalla casa per far riconoscere un Breguet vero da uno falso, stesso scopo per cui era stata progettata. Disgraziatamente non tutti i modelli la portano e quello che piace a me, naturalmente (-.-), no.Do you see the little writes near XII? They're two Breguet secret signatures: you can only see them against the light and still today, from the time of A. Louis Breguet, it's used to recognize a real Breguet from a fare. Unfortunately not all the models nowadays have it. Mine (well, that one I'd like, the Marine) doesn't, naturally (-.-).
Sulla porta ci salutiamo. La mia nuova amica mi invita a tornare a trovarla la prossima volta che capiti a Londra. Accetto volentieri.Non sa in che pasticcio si è cacciata... muhahahaahah (risata malefica)!!
When I was going away my "new fried" invited me to come back at the boutique next time in London. I certainly accept. She doesn't know in wich great trouble she got into.... muhahahahahahahahah (Italian wicked laugh) !!
