Non servo io a dirvi che il mare delle isole greche è qualcosa di incredibile e di favoloso.Non sono mai stata ai tropici (e nemmeno in Sicilia, dove pare il mare sia mozzafiato), ma tra quelli che ho visto, può competere solo l'oceano che bagna Tarifa. Nient'altro è nemmeno paragonabile con quello che ho visto a Serifos. Con l'aggiunta che l'acqua è caldissima e piacevolissima (al contrario del - per quanto benefico - bagno gelido nell'oceano oltre Gibilterra).
In più non a caso il contrasto tra bianco e blu è caratterizzante di questi luoghi: il mare qui ha un colore incredibile.
L'isola offre diversi tipi di spiagge, a seconda di ciò che si sta cercando: dalle spiagge più affollate e facilmente raggiungibili, a quelle un po' più ricercate con taverne da buongustai, alle spiagge sperdute per gli "esploratori della natura selvaggia" (se cogliete la citazione, siete obbligati a diventare follower ufficiali! ;) )(cliccando qui o qui).
Noi, ovviamente, li abbiamo provati tutti (se non fossimo ingordi, perché mai "the travel eater"?) e ora vi spiegherò :).
You don't need me to look out that greek islands' sea is something incredible and fabulous.I've never been to the tropics (and even in Sicily, where the sea is breathtaking), but among those I have seen, just Tarifa's ocean can compete with Serifos's sea. Nothing else is even comparable with what I saw there. In addition, in Serifos, the water is very warm and pleasant (as opposed to the cold bath in the ocean beyond Gibraltar).Indeed it's not a coincidence that the contrast between white and blue is a characteristic of these places: the sea here is in an amazing color.
The island offers different types of beaches, depending on what you are looking for: you can find from the more crowded ones and within easy reach, to those more sophisticated with gourmet-tavernas, to secluded beaches for "explorers of the wilderness" (if you grab the quote, you are obliged to become official followers!;)) (clicking here or here).
We, of course, tested all of them (if we were not greedy, why "The Travel Eater"?)And now I will explain you everything :).

spiaggia 1 Plati Gialos: spiaggia con tamerici e ottima taverna
Il connubio ci ha subito attratti e il primo giorno siamo stati alla spiaggia di Gialos, a nord dell'isola. Poco frequentata, ma non deserta, è un piccolo paradiso. Acqua cristallina e spiaggia di sabbia nel mezzo di una radura brulla, tipicamente serifiota.
(NB: le tamerici sono gli "ombrelloni naturali" dell'isola. Alberi tipici della zona sotto la cui chioma si trova l'ombra ideale.)

This union fascinated us and, at the first day, we went to Gialos beach, on the north. This beach isn't much crowded, but not empty. Actually it is a small paradise. Imagine crystal clear water and sandy beach in the middle of a barren clearing, typically serifiota.
(NB: the tamarisks are the "natural beach umbrella" of the island. They're typical trees of the area under whose you can find the the perfect shade.)

Accanto vi è una comodissima e ottima taverna dove ho mangiato il mio primo (e unico) Moussaka - uno sformato con melanzane, patate, besciamella, tipicamente greca - buonissima, per quanto un po' pesante per essere un pranzo da spiaggia. A dire di tutti gli altri, ottime le acciughe e la tradizionale insalata greca (i formaggi a Serifos sono stupendi e non solo la feta!!).
Next to the beach there is a convenient and excellent tavern, where I ate my first (and only) blbla - a sort of flan with eggplant, potatoes, béchamel) typically Greek - very good, even if it was a bit heavy to be a lunch at the beach. All the others said that the anchovies and the traditional Greek salad were excellent (cheese in Serifos are great and not only the feta!).

Poco distante dalla spiaggia (facilmente raggiungibile in moto o in auto) vi è un monastero semi abbandonato, arroccato perché sfrutta le mura di una fortezza per avvistare e difendersi dai pirati. Il panorama da lì è bellissimo e offre uno spettacolo della natura dell'isola che merita davvero.(è qui ho scattato anche la foto che vi ho mostrato nel primo post)
Not far from the beach (easily reached by motorbike or car) there is a semi-abandoned monastery, perched, because it uses the walls of a fortress to defend against pirates and spotting.
The view from there is beautiful and offers a spectacle of island nature that deserves a visit.

il monastero è tenuto da un unico monaco superstite, gentilissimo e cordialissimo. Ci ha mostrato l'interno e ci ha offerto il Loukoum: un dolce che si contendono greci e turchi, che consiste in una gelatina a base di rosa con su sparso dello zucchero a velo. E' un sogno. Lo abbiamo mangiato anche al ristorante qualche giorno dopo ma in confronto a quello del monaco era immangiabile. Se ve lo offre non rifiutate e sappiate che non ne mangerete un altro così delizioso!!
The monastery is cared by a single surviving monk, very kind and cordial. He showed us the inside of the monastery and he offered us a Loukoum: a sweet contending between Greeks and Turks, which consists of a gelatin based on roses and spread of sugar icing. It's fabulous. We ate it again at the restaurant a few days later, but there was not comparison. If you'll go there and he'll offer it to you: do not refuse and know that you won't be albe to eat another so delicious anymore!

La spiaggia più comoda - e quindi più turistica - di Serifos è senza dubbio Livadi. Nella zona portuale dell'isola, accanto al servizio rent-a-car, al di sotto di un albergo davvero molto carino, c'è la spiaggia più frequentata e turistica dell'isola. Soprattutto per i giovani e per le famiglie con bambini, è la meglio servita e la più semplice e veloce da raggiungere. Non si rinuncia all'acqua cristallina, ma si perde la pace e il silenzio degli altri luoghi visitati.E' piena di taverne e locali per i giovani, spesso con musica e feste. E' certamente divertente e viva.
La taverna dove abbiamo mangiato (una delle prime della spiaggia, con una grande terrazza coperta da un tetto di rami) si è dimostrata di buona qualità. (in generale non si è mangiato affatto male durante la vacanza ;) !!)
The most comfortable beach - and therefore the most tourist - in Serifos is undoubtedly Livadi. In the port area of the island, next to the service rent-a-car, below a very nice hotel, there is the most popular beach and tourist island. Especially for young people and families with children, Libadi is the best served and the quickest and easiest to reach beach of the island.The crystalline water rests, but you lose the peace and silence of the other places we visited.
It's full of taverns and clubs for young people, often with music and parties. It's certainly fun and lively.
The tavern where we ate (one of the first of the beach, with a large terrace covered by a roof of branches) was of very good quality. (in general we didn't have bad food at all during the holidays;)! )
