Hello, Satchmo !

Louis Armstrong e la sua band
Il 6 di luglio del 1971 ci lasciava Louis Armstrong, stroncato da una crisi cardiaca.
Era nato 71 anni prima (il 4 agosto) a New Orleans.
Raggiunse la fama inizialmente come trombettista, ma fu anche uno dei più importanti cantanti jazz, soprattutto verso la fine della sua carriera.Certamente è stato il più famoso musicista jazz del XX secolo.
Carismatico e innovativo, al suo talento ed alla sua luminosa personalità si deve molta della popolarità del jazz, che esce dai confini della sua regione d’origine per diventare un genere musicale amato in tutto il mondo.
Il soprannome Satchmo o Satch è l’abbreviazione di Satchelmouth, parola che sta ad indicare il modo in cui suonava la sua tromba, al punto che nel 1932 l’allora editore della rivista Melody Maker salutò Armstrong a Londra dicendo “Hello, Satchmo!”.
Una delle sue canzoni che preferisco è la celebre  "What A Wonderful World", sia per l'espressività del testo, sia perché fa parte del repertorio della mia Banda.
