Holidays in Tuscany-5

Lo so che vi mancava tantissimo la fotocronaca delle mie vacanze in Toscana così ecco un nuovo episodio: solo per la vostra felicità!
Qui siamo a casa mia: nella provincia di Pisa e al confine di quella di Lucca. Ci sono piccole ma bellissime montagne, che nascondono molte testimonianze del nostro passato, e poi il mare.
In questo luminoso e caldo giorno di giugno avevamo tanta voglia di camminare (anche in salita!).
 I know that many lacked the photo chronicle of my holiday in Tuscany, so here is a new episode: just for your happiness!
Here we are in my area: in the province of Pisa and the border of Lucca. There are small but beautiful mountains, which hide many testimonies of our past, and then the sea.
In this sunny and warm day in June we had a great desire to walk (even uphill!).

La nostra meta è "il mirteto", un piccolo centro monastico nella Valle delle Fonti, sui sentieri che portano al Monte Faeta, sopra il paese di Asciano. Questa valle è uno dei nostri luoghi preferiti per fare trekking, anche se quando fa troppo caldo si rischia facilmente l'insolazione! Io ho avuto un piccolo malore lungo la salita, ma poi mi sono ripresa, anche grazie a un bel panino e due cagnolini che sono apparsi e mi hanno fatto le coccole! Insomma la pet teraphy funziona!
Our goal is "The Mirteto", a small monastic center in the Valley of the Springs, on trails leading to Mount Faeta, above the village of Asciano. This valley is one of our favorite places to go hiking, but when it gets too hot you may easily insolation! I had a minor illness on the climb, but then I recovered, thanks to a nice sandwich and two dogs that have appeared and they made me the pampering! In short, the pet teraphy is right!

The complex includes a church of Romanesque style of the twelfth century, dedicated to St. Mary of Mirteto, then dependent on the Abbey of San Michele at Wart. The building remained active until the eighteenth century, becoming in 1712 a private oratory. Currently she is in a state of ruin, but with well-preserved walls and altar. It was home to a Madonna of the snow fifteenth, today in the church of Asciano.
The rest of the buildings, including houses, ovens and wine cellars, some of which are much more modern, is in a state of deterioration and unsafe; access is prohibited.
The name derives from the presence of myrtle trees in the area, at least in the period in which the monastery was still inhabited

















 Dopo la tiepida quiete del Mirteto e un piccolo pic-nic (concluso con le ottime ciliege che si trovano qui nel frutteto) torniamo verso la base, prima di tornare a casa qualche foto al Cisternone Mediceo, e alla lapide dei partigiani, intorno alla quale questa volta ho visto molto abbandono, e questo mi ha reso un po' triste e arrabbiata con il Comune di san Giuliano Terme e con l'ANPI locale, che non combina niente di buono, sono due anni che non riesco nemmeno ha fare la tessera...
After the warm quiet of Mirteto and a small picnic (concluded with the excellent cherries that are found here in the orchard) back to the base, before returning home a few photos to Cisternone Medici, and the tombstone of the partisans, around which this time I have seen much abandonment, and this made me a bit 'sad and angry with the Municipality of San Giuliano Terme and the local ANPI, that brings no good, are two years that he can not even do the card ...
°°° La cosa bella di queste piccole vacanze è che potevamo tornare a casa, così ho passato un po' di tempo coi miei genitori e il mio gatto Cenerino. Ma vi avevo detto che avevamo tanta voglia di camminare, vero?
Così decidiamo di andare al mare, ma invece di andare tranquilli a Marina di Vecchiano e parcheggiare a due passi dal mare, noi decidiamo di passare dalla pineta della Bufalina, a Torre del Lago e facciamo qualche km, un'altra fatica ma ne valeva la pena... abbiamo incontrato un animalino selvatico!The nice thing about these small holidays is that we could go home, so I spent a bit 'of time with my parents and my cat Cenerino. So we decide to go to the beach, but instead of going quietly in Marina di Vecchiano and park a few steps from the sea, we decide to move from the pine forest of Bufalina, in Torre del Lago and do a few kilometers, but it was another hard worth ... we met a small wild animal! Beautiful!!!


And then we walk towards the sea in June ...!
