I classici maschili: le bretelle

Le bretelle sono un accessorio che forse non è mai stato ben compreso, per lo meno in italia. Eppure sono eleganti, classiche, e possono essere anche giovanili. Negli USA le amano per la loro praticità, per i britannici c’è un senso di attaccamento alla tradizione. Non sono particolarmente vicine allo stile sartoriale italiano, certo. In Italia non ci sono molti Larry King! Ma le bretelle possono riservare molte sorprese.

Cosa forse non tutti sanno: originariamente venivano indossate sotto il panciotto, ma la loro immagine adesso è cambiata, dal momento che  adesso sono visibili ogni volta che ci si toglie la giacca. Il materiale classico in cui sono fatte è il Box Cloth, mentre oggi esistono molte varianti sintetiche. Solo a New York da Brooks Brothers esistono quelle in cuoio intrecciato. Il più conosciuto fornitore di bretelle è Albert Thurston (casa fondata nel 1820), che ha clienti del calibro di Frank Sinatra. I business man d’oltreoceano abbinano il colore dei passanti a quello delle scarpe, di solito nere o marroni.

Ma perché indossarle? Perché se sono di ottima qualità mantengono sempre il pantalone alla stessa altezza, e Il pantalone risulta quindi impeccabile in ogni situazione. Perché con la loro linea verticale slanciano la figura. Perché è una soluzione più fresca per l’estate rispetto alla cintura.
Ricordate che vanno scelte in base al tipo di pantalone; il pantalone italiano non si presta a questo accessorio. Il consiglio quindi è di ricorrere a un sarto, che potrà confezionare un pantalone su misura adatto ad essere portato con le bretelle. Perfetto invece è il pantalone americano tradizionale, con la vita molto alta.

In the U.S., the love for their practicality prevails, for the British there is a sense of attachment to the tradition. They are not particularly close to the Italian sartorial style, of course. In Italy there are not many Larry King! But the braces can reserve many surprises.

Perhaps not everyone knows that: they were originally worn under the waistcoat, but their image has now changed, since now they are visible whenever you remove your jacket. The classical material in which they are made is the Box Cloth, while today there are many synthetic variants. Only in New York from Brooks Brothers you can find those in braided leather. The best known provider is Albert Thurston (house founded in 1820), that  has clients such as Frank Sinatra. The businessmen from overseas match the color of details to their shoes, usually in black or brown.

But why should you wear them? Because if their quality is really very good,  they always keep the trousers at the same height, and they will be  totally flawless in every moment. Because their vertical line makes the body’s shape look better. Because this accessory represents a “fresh” solution for the summer.
Remember that they must be chosen according to the type of trousers, and that thetypical Italian trousers do  not lend itself to this accessory. Otherwise, they will look perfect with the very high waisted traditional American trousers . Our advice is to commission this work to a tailor, who can create your  bespoke trousers to be worn with suspenders.
