“il rugby degli altri”: Connacht annuncia la firma di due nuovi contratti

Connacht Rugby e la IRFU hanno annunciato la firma di due nuovi contratti.

Si tratta di un ritorno, quello del centro Eoin Griffin, e di un prolungamento, quello del versatile estremo Tiernan O'Halloran. Entrambi i giocatori, che sono nati a Galway e cresciuti nelle giovanili della Province, hanno firmato per due stagioni.

Griffin, 25 anni, veste la maglia della Province da quando aveva 15 anni; ha iniziato con la Connacht Academy nel 2009, guadagnandosi in quell'anno il suo primo cap in PRO12.

Ha raccolto 71 presenze, di cui 11 nella ex Heineken Cup, prima di passare ai London Irish nell'estate del 2014 con un contratto biennale.
Griffin ha giocato 15 gare in Aviva Premiership e 5 in Challenge Cup. Al momento sta recuperando dall'infortunio al tendine rimediato nel match contro gli Harlequins, dopo essersi sottoposto ad intervento chirurgico.

Tiernan O'Halloran, 24 anni, è alla sua settima stagione con Connacht Rugby; ha giocato titolare in dieci delle dodici gare ufficiali giocate in stagione. Per due volte ha vinto il premio come Man of the Match ed è stato votato "Connacht Rugby Player of the Month" in settembre; ha guidato la Province da capitano nelle vittorie su Ospreys e Brive, marcando tre mete - tra cui la prima dello storico trionfo del Thomond Park.
Ha totalizzato 87 presenze, entrando nella storia di Connacht come il primo giocatore ad aver marcato una meta in Heineken Cup - contro Harlequins al Twickenham Stoop nella stagione 2011/12.

Pat Lam, head coach di Connacht Rugby, ha così commentato la notizia al sito ufficiale della Province: "As well as playing in the Champions Cup and having more players representing Ireland, our other key objective is to have strong Connacht Indigenous representation in our squad. So I am very pleased that both local men Eoin (Griffin) and Tiernan (O'Halloran) have committed to their home province. At still only 25 and 24 respectively, they would already be seen as experienced leaders."

"Tiernan has a massive influence on and off the field and I believe his work ethic and attitude will see him making an even bigger impact playing at Connacht going forward. It's great that Eoin is returning to his home team and his mates. From his experiences of playing abroad for two seasons, he will bring different attributes to the side on and off the park. I'm confident both Eoin and Tiernan will push hard to ensure that their home club Connacht Rugby is successful on and off the field. As far as 'Grassroots to Green Shirts' goes, they are great role models for all young rugby players throughout our province."
