When did become aware of your passion for art?

I think I must have been born with a passion for art. Even as a child, I was interested in making thing, drawing, painting. I wanted to learn and do everything I could.

Come nasce la passione per l’arte?

Credo di aver un innato senso dell´arte fin dalla nascita. Anche da bambina avevo un interesse speciale per il disegno e la pittura. Volevo imparare a fare tutto quello che potevo.

What do you feel when you create?

The work itself is meditative, and of course it’s satisfying to create something.

Cosa senti quando crei?

Si tratta di un lavoro meditativo per sua stessa natura ed ovviamente dà grosse soddisfazioni.

How would you define your own creation?

My creatures are spirit guides. They are numinous beings called forth to inspire deep reflective thought.

Come definiresti una tua creazione?

Le mie creature sono spiriti guida. Sono esseri numinosi, evocate per portare a galla un pensiero profondo.

I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and I graduated with a BA in Fine Art in 2005. I currently live and work in New York City.

The artist works in virtue of an inner need, sometimes without considering the audience, following its own expressive need. You create just for yourself or for those who will look at your work?

Both. My ultimate goal is to access something in the Collective Unconscious with my artwork – a universal motif that resonates with me personally, but also with the viewer.

The choice of this blinding white where these stand out red eye, he vaguely remembers the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. Influenced your art this story so important?

I think the color white suggests a preternatural, otherworldly quality. The White Rabbit is a sort of spirit guide for Alice, and just like she was led down into Wonderland, my first felt piece was inspired by a dream I had about a white rabbit!

La scelta di questo bianco accecante dove risaltano questi occhi rossi, mi ricorda vagamente il Bianconiglio di Alice nel Paese Delle Meraviglie. Ha influenzato la tua arte questa favola così importante?

Credo che il bianco evochi una dimensione pre-naturale, ultraterrena. Il Bianconiglio è una sorta di spirito guida per Alice e, proprio come lei viene condotta nel Paese delle Meraviglie, la mia prima opera fu ispirata da un sogno che feci e che riguardava proprio un coniglio bianco.

What do you think of the current art scene?

I am so thankful for the artists, galleries, and writers I’ve worked with! In general, I feel we have a great community, which is essential to navigating this challenging and sometimes lonely profession.

Cosa pensi dello scenario artistico attuale?

Sono molto riconoscente nei confronti degli artisti, gallerie e scrittori con cui ho lavorato. Credo che esista una grande comunità che è fondamentale per far fronte ad una professione che ogni giorno presenta nuove sfida e talvolta risente della solitudine.

You have artists that have influenced you?

Hard-working artists inspire me to work harder and dig deeper, especially when they are personal friends as well. Allison Sommers, Lana Crooks, Caitlin Hackett, Michael Alm, Travis Louie; just to name a few!

Gli artisti molti produttivi mi incitano a lavorare di piu´ e ad un livello piu´ profondo, soprattutto se si tratta di amici. Allison Sommers, Lana Crooks, Caitlin Hackett, Michael Alm, Travis Louie per menzionarne alcuni.

Can you tell us something about events and / or future projects?

I’ve got work in several shows this fall: Fresh Brew opens Oct. 24th at Stephanie Chefas Projects, Muses of Mount Helikon III opens Oct. 30th at Helikon Gallery, POP Femme Sugar Coated Strange also opens Oct. 30th at POP Santa Fe. I’m also working on some miniatures for my shop, and for the holidays. You can always find the latest info on my website, zoewilliams.com
