Intervista al presidente Gül

No, non è la mia: ed è stata invece pubblicata nel primo numero del 2013 della rivista di politica internazionale Foreign Affairs. L’ho appena letta, francamente mi aspettavo qualcosa di più elaborato e meno ancorato all’attualità (l’intervista tra l’altro è stata realizzata a ottobre, alcune domande hanno completamente perso rilevanza); anche le risposte di Gül le ho trovate piuttosto scialbe e scontate, a volte poco sensate: come quando definisce la Turchia “un ponte”, come quando afferma che la Turchia è geograficamente in Oriente ma ha i valori dell’Occidente (ma quali sarebbero, questi “valori” dell’Occidente? e soprattutto: cos’è l’Occidente?).

Il presidente ha perso anche una grande occasione per rispondere all’unica domanda veramente interessante: quella sul concetto di “potenza virtuosa”, di cui ho parlato qualche tempo fa; è rimasto molto sul vago, invece: “A virtuous power is a power that is not ambitious or expansionist in any sense. On the contrary, it is a power where the priority lies with safeguarding the human rights and interests of all human beings in a manner that also entails the provision of aid to those in need without expecting anything in return. That’s what I mean by a virtuous power: a power that knows what’s wrong and what’s right and that is also powerful enough to stand behind what’s right.” E chi lo decide cos’è “giusto” e cosa non lo è?
