In our constant research of new shops, at times we bump into authentic surprises that make our journey even more pleasant, and in our humble opinion give much sense to this blog. It was totally by chance, and thanks to the intelligent advice of our friend Claudia that we discovered this (still unfortunately) unknown jewel called La Gourmandise.
La Gourmandise, despite the French name, is totally italian and the passion they put in the making-of of their delicious ice-cream is 100% italian, as well as the excellent raw materials.
We'd like to sum up in few words the introduction published on their site, where they explain the concept of the activity and the origin of their products. We like the way they conceived the ice-cream, as a "bridge" to harmonize, like only good music can do, genuine ingredients with the new trends in food combos and experiences. Also, ice- cream as a vehicle to transmit Italian culture is an idea we think we can share.
The flavours tested were all special and the choice is so varied that you'll spend several minutes just for choosing. First of all, forget the cone; here only paper cups are available, so that you can fully concentrate on the creams and not even a backtaste from the wafer can ruin that.
A whole chapter can be dedicated on the chocolates, an incredible varietyb of creams where pure dark chocolate masses are used: 65% black choco is available, but for real aficionados, 100% Arriba Ecuadorian chocolate cream is a must. Other flavours included pear, cinnamon and crumble, vanilla&ginger, white chocolate with blueberries, and a very delicate lemon cream with thyme. All of them were absolutely satisfyng and we undoubtly include this gelateria among the best ones in Rome.
The perfect choice for whoever is in Monteverde area and would like to enjoy a walk among the elegant villas in the old area.
The perfect soundtrack: the soft sweetness of Antony and the Johnsons and their song Lady Story.
La Gourmandise highlights: an ice cream and a walk among the jasmines.
