«Vercelli città d'arte» cita un cartello all'ingresso della città. E i vercellesi storcono il naso e i non-vercellesi pensano a un'esagerazione di immodestia. Per sfatare quest'idea e altri pregiudizi, tipici di chi ha davanti a sè qualcosa di prezioso senza saperlo riconoscere, TerreRiflesse, l'associazione di promozione territoriale e del turismo (anche 2.0 possiamo dire) di cui vi ho spesso parlato, ha organizzato una giornata per blogger alla caccia dei segreti non molto arcani della città.
«Vercelli city of art» quotes a sign at the entrance of the city. And people from Vercelli aren't so persuaded by it and people that come from otherwhere thinks we are immodest. To dispel this idea and other prejudices, typical of someone who has in front of him something valuable without being able to recognize it, TerreRiflesse, the association for the promotion of tourism and territorial (even we can say of the 2.0 generation) about which I have often told you, organized a day for bloggers to hunt the not-so-arcane secrets of the city.

Ora vi presento rapidamente le nostre 'tappe' per aiutarvi a seguirci nel percorso. Tornerò su alcuni punti, approfondendo con altri post.
Here we are: eight bloggers from various parts of the Piedmont (if you want to know us, HERE is the introduction and all guest blogger's links) (in Italian) at the Vercelli station, last Friday, for a tour devoted to art, the local culture and the typical food of the area.
Now I introduce to you quickly our 'steps' to help you follow the path. I will return to some points, deepening with other posts.

#1 Museo Borgogna. Si tratta di uno dei musei della città, il più grande e il più ricco. E' in pieno centro, in un favoloso palazzo ottocentesco decorato (i soffitti non erano fotografabili, ma erano stupendi!) e circondato da un giardino stupendo. Qui, abbiamo potuto godere di una delle collezioni piemontesi più importanti sia per quantitativo (800 opere) che per il valore delle opere esposte. Vi mostro per ora solo questa immagine, perché tengo a dedicare un post alla collezione.
Aggiungo che si è trattata di una vera sorpresa anche per me che vivo a Vercelli. Tutti i bambini di Vercelli tra elementari e medie vengono portati al Museo Borgogna, cosicché poi ognuno possa credersi un esperto in materia quando in realtà nessuno ricorda la sua incredibile ricchezza.
#1 Borgogna Museum. This is one of the museums of the city, it's surely the largest and the richest one. It's in the center, in a fabulous nineteenth-century decorated building (we couldn't take photos to the ceilings, but they were gorgeous!) surrounded by a beautiful garden. Here, we were able to enjoy one of the most important collections in Piedmont thanks to its quantity (800 works) and to the value of the exhibits. I show you this picture for now only because I want to dedicate a post to the collection.
I would add that it is treated to a real surprise for me that I live in Vercelli. All children who attend schools in Vercelli between primary and secondary school are brought to the Museum Borgogna, so then everyone can believe to be an expert when in reality no one remembers its incredible wealth.

#2 La mostra in collaborazione con la Peggy Guggenheim collection. Ha dell'incredibile, forse, ma Vercelli dal 2007 ospita incredibili mostre in collaborazione con la collezione Peggy Guggenheim, ospitando opere provenienti da New York e da Venezia, ogni anno seguendo un 'filone' differente (Surrealismo, pittura americana, Astrattismo, arte italiana, l'arte degli anni '60) ed offrendo un vero patrimonio artistico agli occhi di turisti e dei residenti. Ogni anno la mostra ha saputo stupirci e ammaliarci con opere di incredibile valore e celebrità. Stiamo parlando dei capolavori più celebri di Chagall, Dalì, De Chirico, Magritte, Giacometti, Pollock, Rothko, Vedova, Miró, Mondrian, Calder, Kandinskij, Fontana, Morandi, Modigliani, Tosi, Pomodoro. Insomma, altissimo livello artistico (posso dirlo? Lo dico: cose che le mostre di Palazzo Reale si sognano di notte). Quest'anno il tema è: 'Gli anni sessanta delle collezioni Guggenheim: Oltre l'informale verso la pop art' e ospita opere di Burri, Dubuffet, Fontana, Andy Warhol, Rothko, Lichtenstein, Pistoletto e molti altri.
#2 The exhibition in collaboration with the Peggy Guggenheim collection. Incredible, perhaps, but Vercelli until 2007 hosts incredible exhibitions in collaboration with the Peggy Guggenheim collection, hosting works from New York and Venice, each year following a different 'trend' (Surrealism, American Painting, Abstract Art, Italian Art , the art of the '60s) and offering a true artistic heritage to the tourists and the residents. Each year the show has been able to amaze and charm us with works of incredible value and celebrities. We are talking about the most famous masterpieces by Chagall, Dalì, De Chirico, Magritte, Giacometti, Pollock, Rothko, Vedova, Miró, Mondrian, Calder, Kandinsky, Fontana, Morandi, Modigliani, Tosi, Pomodoro. In short, the highest artistic level (can I say? I'll say it: these are works that the various exhibitions in Palazzo Reale in Milan can just dream at night). This year's theme is: 'The sixties of the Guggenheim collections: Beyond the informal to the pop art' and houses works by Burri, Dubuffet, Fontana, Andy Warhol, Rothko, Lichtenstein, Pistoletto and many others.

For many it is unbelievable that Vercelli guard works of this value, in such a fabulous artistic context (the location is the former church of San Marco in a perfect Gothic style full of colored frescoes). Here I saw the best exhibitions of recent years, including those in Milan and the ones near. The richness and concentration is amazing, I recommend it to all fans. We will be back, however, on this: do you know how much I love to photograph the exhibitions and I have some pictures ready for the next post :D.

#3 Città del riso. In occasione dell'esposizione Guggenheim, è ovvio che l'affluenza turistica aumenti. Si è pensato, quindi, di offrire ai viandanti l'occasione di portare a casa con sè i prodotti tipici e unici che il nostro territorio offre (anche di domenica): il riso e il vino. Per questo è nata la 'Città del Riso', una piccola bottega in grado di raccogliere i prodotti delle riserie migliori del Vercellese e il migliore Gattinara in assoluto: il Travaglini (di cui vi parlai QUI).
# 3 Città del riso (City of the rice). On the occasion of the Guggenheim, it is obvious that the number of tourists in Vercelli increases. They thought, therefore, to offer to travelers the chance to take home with them the typical and unique products that our area offers (even on Sundays): rice and wine. This led to the 'City of Rice', a small shop where to buy the rice from the best of rice-milling Vercelli and the best Gattinara wine ever: the Travaglini (of which I spoke to you HERE).

Qui abbiamo anche assistito a una ricostruzione di come il riso viene 'raffinato', grazie alle eloquenti spiegazioni degli esperti e l'aiuto di una piccola riseria in miniatura ma perfettamente funzionante, che ci ha permesso di apprenderne la lavorazione. (Il post dedicato a questo lo scriverà Giacomo, che era con me, e che ne è rimasto particolarmente affascinato).
Here we have also seen a reconstruction of how the rice is 'refined', thanks to the eloquent explanations of the experts and the help of a small rice mill in miniature but fully functional, which allowed us to learn the process. (The post The Travel Eater'll dedicate to this will write by Giacomo, who was with me, and that was particularly fascinated by it).

#4 il Pranzo. Il Pranzo per noi non è stata la 'pausa pranzo', ma giustamente una tappa importante della giornata. Il Pranzo si è tenuto in uno dei più (forse 'il più') rinomati di Vercelli: il Giardinetto (QUI la pagina Fb). Qui c'è stato offerto un antipasto vegetariano notevole, semplice ed efficace: un fagotto di zucchine contenente formaggio caldo, il tutto affogato in una passata finissima di pomodoro. Dopo di che è giunta ai nostri piatti, Sua Maestà: la Panissa, il vero piatto rappresentante di Vercelli.
#4 Having Lunch. Lunch wasn't for us the 'break', but rightly an important stage of the day. The Lunch was in one of the most (perhaps 'the most') known restaurant in Vercelli: the Giardinetto (Fb page HERE). Here they offered to us a great vegetarian entree, simple and effective: a bundle of zucchini containing hot cheese, all smothered in a tomato fine sauce. After that Her Majesty came to our dishes: the Panissa, the real dish representative of Vercelli.

Siccome alla Città del Riso ci è stata regalato una bellissimo sacchetto per cucinarla (il cosiddetto "Panissa Kit", delizioso) documenterò la sua preparazione e vi farò avere la sua antica ricetta a base di riso (ovviamente, è un risotto), fagioli delle nostre parti e salame d'la duja, un prodotto tutto nostro che rende il piatto particolarmente 'leggero' :) !! Il tutto preparato rigorosamente in un paiolo di rame (quale studente fuorisede non ce l'ha in casa propria?) in grado di creare la cosiddetta 'crosta' (il fondo del risotto) che è qualcosa di magicamente gudurioso.
A seguire un buon tortino ripieno di cioccolato bagnato da una crema delicatissima leggermente aromatizzata all'ananas con fragole e menta, molto cara al ristorante.
At the Città del Riso we were given a beautiful kit to cook it (the "Panissa Kit", delicious!!) and so I will document its preparation and I will give you the authentic old recipe made with rice (of course, it's a risotto), beans of our zones and the salami of duja, a product of our own that makes the dish particularly 'light' :)! It's prepared strictly in a copper pot (every student have have it in his own home, doesn't he?) That create the so-called 'crust' (the bottom of risotto) which is something magically full of pleasure.
Following a good cake filled with chocolate and covered with a delicate cream lightly ananas flavored with strawberry and mint, very dear to the restaurant.
