LFW and the K factor. Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane

Sometimes LFW can feel a bit like the NYW to me; so many young designers, so many collections and very little excietment. This year though London was great and two of the collections I was waiting for - for different reasons - are out to be seen: Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane. I've always been a Katrantzou fan, since her first collection, and after last season 'stamps and money collection' I was really curious to see in which direction she would have gone this time. As far as Kane is concerned I wanted to pay more attention to his label after it's been backed - that means $$$ - by PPR and therefore bound to become a global brand. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A volte la LFW mi fa lo stesso effetto della NYFW; molti giovani designers, troppe collezioni e poco o nulla di interessante. Questa' anno pero' Londra non ha deluso e due delle collezioni che stavo aspettando - per ragioni differenti - hanno sfilato: Mary Katrantzou e Christopher Kane. Sono sempre stato un fan della Katrantzou, fin dalla sua prima collezione, e dopo la collezione 'francobolli e denaro' della scorsa stagione, ero veramente curioso di vedere in quale direzione si sarebbe spinta. per quanto riguarda Kane invece, volevo dargli un occhio di riguardo dopo che il suo marchio e' stato finanziato da PPR - significa €€€ - e quindi destinato a diventare un brand globale.
MARY KATRANTZOU There still great prints that create memorable looks and an 'atmosphere' but with a restrained sense of colour. Black, white and grey tones, landscapes, round silhouettes and origami like ones, with a hint of abstract prints too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ci sono ancora delle stampe magnifiche a creare look memorabili e di atmosfera ma con un senso del colore piu'contenuto. Toni del bianco, nero e del grigio, paesaggi, silhouette arrotondate e a origami, anche con un accenno a stampe astratte.





CHRISTOPHER KANE It can be quite puzzling to see a Kane's collection if you don't know that he is well know for not having signature looks at all. That's again the case in this heavily edited - as he said - but big collection: camouflage, velvet, embellished dress, flowers and feathers. His strength is obviously his versatility and great skill. That's why, I suppose PPR set its eyes on him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Puo' essere spiazzante vedere una collezione di Kane se non si sa che e' rinomanto per il non avere dei look riconoscibili. E' di nuovo cosi' con questa  collezione, pesantemente editata - a suo dire - ma molto lunga: camouflage, velluto, abiti ricamati, fiori e piume. Il suo punto di forza e' chiaramente la versatilita' e le sue capacita' tecniche. Ecco perche', immagino, PPR ci ha messo sopra gli occhi.
