Mercatini a New York/ Flea Market in NY

Essendo ancora all’inizio del blog, non ho ancora avuto molto tempo di scrivere dei miei viaggi…Seguendo qualche blog, ho scoperto che Silvia il 25/4 partirà per NY e mi sono offerta di darle qualche consiglio!

Dopo un piccolo scambio di @ mi ha dato l’idea per questo articolo ;)

Se si parte per New York chiunque pensa di lasciare un po’ di spazio vuoto in valigia per lo shopping.

Ma oltre ai famosi negozi della Madison Avenue, della 5th Avenue e di Soho, questa meravigliosa città offre anche un grande numero di mercatini delle pulci! Generalmente in questi mercatini si può trovare di tutto: articoli di seconda mano a piccoli prezzi o accessori/abbigliamento vintage e creazioni di giovani artisti emergenti a prezzi più elevati … la moda ha sempre il suo prezzo! Ma non disperate … c’è una grande varietà nella gamma dei prezzi e le occasioni sono talmente tante che sicuramente riuscirete a trovare qualcosa da portarvi a casa!

Se vi piace il genere o se volete solo dare un’occhiata, con l’arrivo della bella stagione avrete solo l’imbarazzo della scelta: ogni week end tra aprile e ottobre infatti, nei vari quartieri di New York, potrete trovare questi negozi a cielo aperto!

Vi lascio un elenco dei migliori mercatini:

1) HELL KITCHEN FLEA MARKET  - Manhattan
E’ aperto tutto l’anno (tempo permettendo), sabato e domenica, dalle 9 alle 17 e si divide in 3 sedi:

• Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market – West 39th Street tra 9th & 10th Avenues – nominato da National Geographic come una delle 10 vie dello shopping del mondo, questo mercato offre uno standard abbastanza alto: troverete collezionisti e affaristi di alto, artisti, celebrità, turisti, e residenti che acquistano oggetti di antiquariato, collezionismo, abbigliamento vintage, decorazioni per la casa, mobili, gioielli e altro ancora.
• The Antiques Garage – 112 West 25th Street (tra la 6a e la 7a Avenue) – E’ uno dei pochi mercatini al chiuso. Ha aperto nel 1994 e da allora ha attirato migliaia di clienti con più di 100 fornitori su due piani: sono venduti oggetti d’antiquariato (tra cui dipinti e stampe), oggetti d’epoca ( tra cui gioielli, borse, tessuti, tappeti, mobili…) e altro ancora.
• West 25th Street Market – West 25th Street tra Broadway e 6th Avenue – ospita fino a 125 venditori che vendono oggetti d’antiquariato, collezionismo, e altri tipi di oggetti vintage e moderni.

2) GREEN FLEA MARKET  – Manhattan
Columbus Avenue tra W. 76 & 77 Streets
Si trova nell’Upper West Side ed è aperto dalle 10 alle 17:30 (da novembre a marzo) e dalle 10 alle 18 (da aprile ad ottobre).
E’ un mercato enorme che offre oggetti d’importazione e artigianali a prezzi ragionevoli, nonché oggetti d’antiquariato e libri. E’ possibile inoltre fare una pausa tra un acquisto e l’altro in quanto sono presenti agricoltori che vendono i loro prodotti freschi (da qui appunto il nome greenflea)

3) EAST 67th STREET MARKET  – Manhattan
419 East 66th St tra 1st & York Avenue
Situato nell’Upper East Side è uno dei mercati di strada più vecchi di New York (dal 1979).
Si svolge ogni sabato, dalle 6 alle 17, nella caffetteria e nel prato della Public School 183 e offre più di 100 venditori: da economici prodotti alimentari freschi ad articoli di artigianato e antiquariato. L’ingresso è sempre gratuito.

4) HESTER STREET FAIR – Manhattan
tra Hester St e Essex St
Aperto il sabato e la domenica dalle 11 alle 18, dal 26 Aprile al 26 Ottobre.
Decine di venditori si riuniscono per un mercato all’aperto dinamico, nel cuore del centro storico Lower East Side, offrendo il miglior cibo artigianale, l’abbigliamento vintage, i gioielli, l’artigianato, dei prodotti per la casa e molto altro.
Inoltre l’ultimo week end di ogni mese si tiene il Summer Stylist Tent dove vengono venduti gli abiti personali dismessi degli stilisti, delle modelle e dagli stylist a prezzi stracciati.

5) ARTIST & FLEAS – Manhattan & Brooklyn
Diviso in 2 sedi

• Williamsburg - 70 North 7th Street tra Kent & Wythe Avenues (Brooklyn) – Aperto tutto l’anno dalle 10 alle 19, ogni sabato e domenica, questo mercato si trova a solo 3 isolati dalla fermata L di Bedford Avenue. Aperto nel 2003 mette in mostra artisti locali, designer, collezionisti e creatori e responsabili. E’ un luogo per individuare nuovi stili e nuove tendenze.
• Chelsea Market – 88 10th Avenue & West 15th Street (all’interno del Chelsea Market) Manhattan – Aperto dal 1° aprile, dal lunedì al sabato dalle 10 alle 21 e la domenica dalle 10 alle 20. E’ un pop-up store rotante che riunisce una collezione curata di designer indipendenti, artisti emergenti e collezionisti d’epoca.

6) BROOKLYN FLEA - Brooklyn
Il mercato, aperto durante la bella stagione (generalmente tra aprile e novembre) si svolge in tre differenti location:

• Fort Greene- 176 Lafayette Avenue, tra Clermont e Vanderbilt Avenue – il sabato dalle 10 alle 17. E’ il mercato principale del Brooklyn Flea e presenta circa 150 espositori: oggetti vintage, hipster e cibo.
• Park Slope P.S 321 – 80 7th Avenue (tra 1st & 2 St.) – sabato e domenica dalle 10 alle 17. Situato nel cortile della scuola elementare 321, questo mercato offre più di 50 espositori con beni di ogni genere: dal vintage all’antiquariato, dagli oggetti fatti a mano ai venditori di cibo. Sono anche programmate attività gratuite per i bambini con l’aiuto di alcune organizzazioni giovanili di Brooklyn: workshop letterari per i piccoli, lezioni di danza, esperimenti di fisica, musica, cinema..
• Williamsburg Flea – 50 Kent Avenue – quest’anno apre il 4 maggio e sarà attivo la domenica dalle 10 alle 17. Una vista suggestiva sullo skyline di Manhattan e 150 venditori di articoli vintage, di antiquariato e cibo.

Se siete esperti esploratori di mercatini sapete che gli affari migliori si fanno all’apertura, per cui niente lunghe dormite nel week end! Se volete comprare qualche chicca vi conviene arrivare presto così da avere tutto il tempo di dare un’occhiata in giro e accaparrarvi il pezzo migliore ;)

In addition to the famous shops of Madison Avenue, 5th Avenue and Soho , this wonderful city also has a large number of flea markets!

Generally in these markets you can find everything (from second-hand items at low prices or accessories/vintage clothing and some works of young artist), there is a great variety in the price range and occasions are so many that you’ll be able to find something to take home, for sure.

If you like the genre or if you just want to take a look, with the arrival of the warm weather you’ll be spoiled for choice every weekend: between April and October, New York City offers a lot of this open-air market in every borough.

These are the best markets:

1) HKFM  - Manhattan

• Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market - Located on West 39th Street between 9th & 10th Avenues – Named one of the top ten shopping streets in the world by National Geographic, Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market sets a standard for distinctive vendors, a place where collectors and top-notch hagglers including the fashion éclat, artists, celebrities, tourists, and residents shop the market for antiques, collectibles, vintage clothing, mid-century modern items, home decorations, furniture, jewelry, and more.
• The Antiques Garage - Located at 112 West 25th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues) and open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. every Saturday & Sunday. The Antiques Garage has been attracting thousands of shoppers each weekend since 1994 with 100+ vendors on two floors selling eclectic antiques and decorative arts, including paintings and prints, vintage items including jewelry, handbags, fabrics, rugs, furniture, every type of fine silver item imaginable, and more.
• West 25Th Street Market – Located on West 25th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue - features up to 125 vendors selling antiques, collectibles, and other types of vintage and mid-century modern items.

2) GREEN FLEA MARKET  – Manhattan
Columbus Avenue between W. 76 & 77 Streets (Upper West Side)
Open on Sundays from 10am to 5:30pm (Nov.-Mar.) and 10am to 6pm (Apr.-Oct.). It’s a huge market with indoor and outdoor vendors selling wonderful imports and handmade crafts as well as antiques and books. It’s called “greenflea” because there are farmers selling fresh produce as well as flea market vendors.

3) EAST 67th STREET MARKET – Manhattan
419 East 66th St between 1st & York Avenue
Located on the Upper East Side is one of the oldest street markets in New York (since 1979)
It takes place every Saturday from 6am to 5pm , in the cafeteria and in the meadow of Public School 183 and offers more than 100 vendors : from cheap fresh food items for crafts and antiques . Admission is always free.

4) HESTER STREET FAIR  – Manhattan
Between Hester St and Essex St
Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 6pm, from 26 April to 26 in October.
Dozens of vendors have gathered for a dynamic open-air market in the heart of the historic Lower East Side, offering the best artisan food , vintage clothing , jewelry, crafts , handmade jewelry , home goods and much more.
Moreover, the last weekend of every month there’s the Summer Stylist Tent where designers, models and stylists sold their discontinued clothes at bargain prices.

5) ARTIST & FLEAS – Manhattan & Brooklyn
Divided into 2 locations

• Williamsburg - 70 North 7th Street between Kent & Wythe Avenues (Brooklyn) – Open all year round from 10am to 7pm , Saturdays and Sundays ,this market is only 3 blocks from the L to Bedford Avenue. Opened in 2003, showcases local artists, designers, collectors and creators. It’s a place to find new styles and trends.
• Chelsea Market - 88 10th Avenue and West 15th Street (inside the Chelsea Market) Manhattan – Open from April 1st, from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 10am to 8pm. It’s a pop-up rotating store where you can find collections of independent designers , artists and vintage collectors.

6) BROOKLYN FLEA  - Brooklyn
The market is open during the summer season (generally between April and November) and it takes place in three different locations:

• Fort Greene -176 Lafayette Avenue between Clermont and Vanderbilt Avenue – Saturday from 10am to 5pm. It’s the main market of the Brooklyn Flea and features about 150 exhibitor : vintage items, hipsters and food.
• Park Slope PS 321 -80 7th Avenue ( between 1st & 2nd St.) – Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Located in the courtyard of an elementary school, this market offers more than 50 exhibitors with goods of all kinds : from vintage to handmade items to food vendors. There are also some free activities planned for the children, with the help of some youth organizations of Brooklyn: literary workshops for children, dance lessons , physics experiments , music, cinema ..
• Williamsburg Flea - 50 Kent Avenue – this year opens on May 4th and will be open on Sundays from 10am to 5pm. A picturesque view of the Manhattan skyline and 150 sellers of vintage items, antiques and food.

If you are an experienced markets explorer you already know that the best deals are made at the opening , so.. no long sleep over the weekend!! ;)
