The company, named after the designer who founded the label in 1982, appointed the restructuring adviser Zolfo Cooper to take over the business and find a buyer.

Nicole Farhi filed for bankruptcy and appointed the restructuring adviser Zolfo Cooper to find a buyer in order to avoid the closing of the company. Peter Saville, Fraser Gray and Anne O’Keefe, partners at Zolfo Cooper, were appointed joint administrators of NF Fashion Limited and NF Acquisitions Limited, the companies behind the brand founded in 1982 by the designer of the same name and her former husband, Stephen Marks. Nicole Farhi was part of Stephen Marks’ fashion group French Connection, before being taken over in 2010 by OpenGate Capital for about £5 million and in 2012 by the private equity firm Kelso Place Asset Management, which has been investing in other fashion labels, such as Anya Hindmarch.
“Nicole Farhi – said Peter Saville – is a very powerful retail brand. Unfortunately, as with many other fashion retailers, the decline in high street spend coupled with rising costs has led to increased financial pressures on the business. We are already in discussions with a number of interested parties and will be working hard to identify the best possible outcomes regarding preservation of jobs, the value of the business and returns to creditors.”
Nicole Farhi employs 75 staff in its five stores, and has another 44 staff employed at its London headquarters.
Among the novelties there have been speculations about a possible return of the designer, now 66. For the time being, the creative team is led by the creative director Joanna Sykes (formerly at Aquascutum), in office since September 2012.
