Dopo la prestigiosa nomination per il Bram Stoker Awards, torna Alessandro Manzetti con una nuova raccolta in lingua inglese horror - distopica, come da tradizione per lo scrittore italiano, editata da Jodi Renee Lester e pubblicata dalla collana K_Noir di Kipple Officina Libraria.
Il titolo della raccolta è The massacre of the Mermaids ed è appartenente alla produzione più oscura di Manzetti.

The Friday rosary continues to plague the Basilica, to count the dead. Domenico, in the privacy of the sacristy, admires himself in the mirror. He secretly wears a necklace of witch intestine and an old white skirt, part of a twentieth-century wedding dress.

When he was young, he used to work for the Inquisition of the Black Hen as executioner of the bitches who married in secret according to Christian traditions: a white dress, a vow of forever, then reproduction. His job was to capture those heretical brides and drag them to a square where he would make examples of them, snatching away their guts in front of the crowd, sinking his crescent-shape knife into their immaculate wombs, extinguishing any trace of life within.

Domenico takes off the skirt and opens a trap door on the floor. He wants to enjoy his collection of brides that he slaughtered. A neon light illuminates an underground tunnel, where dozens of mummified bodies are piled, their jaws wide open, as if they're still screaming.

He goes down the ladder and sticks his tongue into the dead mouth of his favorite from his harem of corpses, brides still wearing their white veil and long silk train, smelling of ancient flowers. (...)
